Question about 1998 Mazda 626

1 Answer

Hi, we have a 95 1800 auto mazda capella. It is way down on power, to the point were when the car is first started if you put your foot down it hardly moves. does not rev when this is done. I has recently had new plugs, fuel filter, ultrasonic clean of fuel rail etc. It gets a bit better after idling for about 10mins. But even then has very very slow pick up. Even for an 1800 auto. The car was not like this when we purchased. What coould be wrong? Are there any common faults to check?

Hi,

You should really get a diagnostics check done first, but in the mean time check that your fuel pump pressure is ok, then have your ignition system checked to make sure that spark is good.

Also on these models they have a common problem with the idle control module and the MAP sensor so get these checked also.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks
Jason

1994 mazda capella won't start

It sounds like the starter is bad. You can have it tested at autozone for free. You just have to remove it from the car to test it.

Alternator drive belt squealing

yeh, mine did the same thing with a hydralic belt. it was the bearings. mazda capellas use a lot of 6202 bearings which, luckily, are fairly cheap, and are commonly used in pool pumps. so you can find them at pool pump repair stores. although pool pumps use 6202 2RSR bearings. these are just the water proof type, but are excactly the same size and can be used.
to test if it is a bearing problem, remove the belt and try to twist the individual wheels by hand, you should be able to turn the 2 smaller ones.
from memory the alternator belt is in a fairly in accessable postition so the belt is going to be hard to put back on.try other things first, like wiping the inner side of the belt with a dry cloth to remove moisture.
worst case senario is your alternator has, or is starting to, seize up and you need to replace it.

Auto transmition wont go into 3rd and 4th gear

I had the same problem I changed the transmission fluid & put a new filter in the trans, this fixed it good until I put my foot down to overtake the trans kicked down to 2nd gear & the hold light started flashing again & the trans started slipping again. I stressed over it for a day or 2 & then I took it out for a drive & thrashed it, Low & behold it came right. When you change fluid its impossible to get all the old fluid out because the torque converter holds a liter or two under pressure, so when I put my foot down some of the gunk blew through & blocked the pump it looses pressure & cant change gear. You need to get it flushed by a transmission specialist

1994 mazda capella has water pump leak ........

Hi

The general reasons for the failure of a water pump are as follows.....

1. General mechanical failure in the seal, or bearing of the water pump, due to general wear and tear, or engine having been overheated badly.

2. Over tensioning, of the drive belt, putting excess strain on the water pump bearing.

I hope this has been of help to you.

A FixYa rating would be Nice... Thank You ...John.

ABS, Traction control and handbrake light is on. Car was running on 3 cylinders previous to the lights coming on. 1999 Mazda SP20 Familia (323)

I have a Mazda Capella (626) 1998 and had similar problem other than it was running on 4 cylinders and the hand brake light was not on and the ANSWER was a speed sensor which is to do with ABS system needed replacing. You can determine which one is broken by putting volt meter over each of them.
