Question about 2003 Chevrolet S-10
Well, the antitheft circuitry definitely is involved. Sometimes opening the door and closing it is part of the reprogramming process (at least on my 1999 Ford Expedition was this way for adding keys with the chip in them to the computer's memory).
I might try asking the dealer about this problem where the antitheft light is on and the car will not start.
I'm not sure if I would go so far as to say that it's defective. Just that the key needs to be programmed to the computer until the antitheft light doesn't go on.
