Question about 1989 Ford Ranger

1 Answer

Hey, i have a 1989 ranger of six cilinders, my problem i think is at the gasoline pump, because the truck sometimes catches and sometimes not, the engine stumbles and then off, some things make me suspicius, things like when i charge gasoline i need to do in a uprigth position, if i dont do this the gasoline pump easily gets stuck. Thanks, Victor Fernandez

I don't think the fuel pump is causing your problem.

The engine stumbling and then going off has to do with an engine problem.

Can you tell me if there are any codes or service engine soon light being lit?

If you don't know the codes, have it scanned so that the problem can be narrowed down to a few things.

Yes, if it was the cat, it would run poorly throughout. Might want to have your throttle position sensor checked. Try cleaning the intake with CRC intake cleaner .

The transmission will not operate in reverse or

hey, im not a professional but ive dealt with crappy a4ld's for about two years. just from what youve said it sounds to me like youre pump may have gone. it happened on my first one. if you remove the bellhousing it is directly behind it. there are 6 or so bolts. a new one can be purchased at cobra transmissions, however if the pump seems intact it could be a million other things. if i were you and you have some know how, buy a stick shift ranger and swap it out. its really not hard. if you have any questions email me at mcdonaldmowing@aol.com good luck

Do you know how much transmission fluid a 1989 Ford Ranger requires?

No more than two gallons, put in one gallon, start the truck, and check the dip stick. It will probably take six or seven.Do not over fill ! If it's a stick shift, one gallon.Pull the plug off the side of the trans and fill till it runs out the hole.Re install the plug and your done.
