Usually you will need to cut the cable to the appropriate length.

The end that goes on the battery is already there, but you will need
to measure and cut the cable to the correct length, and crimp on an
eyelet to put a bolt through. This is simple and will ground your battery.

Your always better to buy battery cables from a dealer.
That way they fit
You wno't get the correct NEG Cable with the small ground wire at the parts store. Dealer

A lot of alternatives even though they are new can be no good, remove the negative battery cable, if the car continues to run, you have a bad alternator

Car was running, electrical wire burning smell, starter makes grinding noise, with the car running, stop the car, starter keeps making grinding noise, with the car turned off, ABS and trac control

You have the polarity of the battery backward somewhere. Did you replace the starter and hook it up backwards. Difficult but possible. Check your positive and negative on the battery itself.

Is it just clicking, like the battery is dead? Will it turn over fast, with the spark plugs removed?
I would try using jumper cables, and try giving the starter a better ground -. Clamp to starter housing and negative side of battery. (NOT + TERMINAL) .
If these make no difference, I would buy a NEW starter.
