Question about 2004 Ford F150

Has anyone come up with a fix for the loud whistle in the f 150's? I have replaced the idler pully and one other pully as well as the serpentine belt. Still have the problem when the weather is below 40. It comes and goes at 48, 58, 68 mph

I thought this was an issue with the alternator. If it is the same one, there was a TSB on this a while back, only sound issue, to date I have yet to see a failure with the alternator due to this.

My 2006 does it, I confirmed with an engine stethoscope still have no issues in 56K miles, and stil have the factory battery installed.

This is a common issue with Ford trucks. It is coming from the intake air / vacuum regulator.(may not be the correct name of the part ) I took the hose off with the engine running and hit it with a quick shot of cleaner and it went away for awhile. The only true fix is to replace the part, Once the venturies get worn they will continue to annoy you with that ear piercing whistle.

I had the same problem, loud annoying whistle, kinda sounds like a supercharger, happens alot in cold weather, believe it or not it was the 4x4 hub actuator, water gets in the seal and ruins the actuator

COULD BE A BAD BEARING IN THE IDLER PULLY OR THE TENSIONER ON THE TIMING BELT OR THE SERPENTINE BELT. IF ITS A SQUEEL IT MAY BE SOME COOLANT GOT ON THE SERPENTINE BELT. TRY TO WASH THE BELT WITH WATER AND LET DRY COMPLETELY. IF NOISE REMAINS RETURN TO THE SHOP THAT DID THE WORK.

Looking for rough estimate on repairing an idler pully

I just repalced the idler pulley on my Ford E-150. I paid about $70 for a new IP and I put it in myself. If you have this work done by a shop, I would guess the entire job would run $300 to $400 depending upon access of the idler pulley.

Please remember to rate this solution. Thanks!

Need to know how to adjust serpentine belt, please show diagram. 6 cyl engine.

Really don't need a diagram. Loosen the slide bolts on the power steering pump. loosen or tighten the pump by turning the jack screw (long transverse bolt) under the pump. Once the belt is tightened up, lock down the slide bolts and you are finished.

Altenator belt popped off is not broken 3.0 grand plymoth voger

this is a common problem with dodge, crysler, and plymounth modles with 6 cylinder engines the alignment is slightly off of the pulleys
dodge had this in their service bulletins years ago and but didn't bother to tell anyone about it. you'll need either a replacement idler pulley wich should come with a washer that fixes the alignment or you'll need to purchace a belt kit that replaces the tentioner pully idler pully and has a new double sided ribbed belt.
amazon sells it for about $100. US

My GXP Grand Prix shreded the serpentine belt the mechanic said something about the tension pully and he needs to replace the whole frame? is there a diagram for the serpentine pullies?

You mean replace the tensioner assy , thats a common problem. If it has an idler pully, replace that too. Diagrams are easy to find , even easier if you provide the year and engine size of your car.

My 1992 sl1 saturn was stolen and recovered when I got it back I got it back with a loud squeking noise coming from the serpentine belt area. Sounds like loud crickets and when I accelerate the squeak gets...

It sounds like an idler pully needs replaced. The bearings are going bad. It is not hard to do this, but more than likely that is what it is. You should also replace the belt.

Loud whistling sound on 1999 GMC Suburban

It sounds like your Idler pully bearing or your tensioner bearing. Regardless change them both and the surpentine belt too. The sound is letting you know that the bearinf is bad and will fail soon. Good luck

Serpentine belt slips off idler pulley

The A/C pully is supposed to spin freely until the AC is activated to run.. The cranshaft pully does not. Replace the tensioner pully. The belt has to fit in between the grooves on the pullys.
