Question about 2002 Volvo S40
Check the oil on the dipstick, if it is milky it is definately a head gasket. Also with the engine cold, open the coolant tank and fill to the brim. If you have a blown head gasket you will note quite a bit of air bubbling out, alternatively have it tested for exhaust gas in the cooling system, some service centers will be able to do this for you for free.
