Question about 2004 Pontiac Grand Am
Hi, there is a resistor pack that is used to slow the fan down on settings 1 2 and 3. When this part fails your fan only works on high 4 & 5. Find the blower motor and follow the wires that come out of it. They plug into the resistor pack. Remove and replace it and your fan will work again. The part is normally around $20-$30 US
It is normally located in the air box behind the glove box on the interior of the car passenger side.
Concerning the defroster, there are doors that open and shut to move the air from one place to another. One may be stuck or the motor or vacuum relay is not working. You will need to pull of all the covers over your system where the vent doors are located and check the little doors for being stuck or not moving when you activate defroster switch.
