The basic amperage of all vehicles is 14 now if your using a higher output alternator you will want to go with a 16 or 18 amp alternator but overall you can order the alternator straight from dealer or any parts stores
i dont recommend junk yard for these kind of parts you really dont know what your going to get

I think 14, 16, and 18 are Voltages not Amperages...

1999 Hyundai accent. Battery discharges due to 1.25 ma current that is still present with all fuses removed. What circuit is not fused?

Hi,
One place to look is the alternator. There are diodes in the alternator that occasionally short out to ground. Take off the hot wire on the alternator and retest amperage draw. No fuse in that circuit.

How do i know which alternator i need ( without taking it out first)? Parts guy says there are two different casing sizes.

Hi, the two different ones resemble the amperage rating. either one will fit, it depends on the options in the van. lesser power options would result in lesser amperage alternator, and vice versa. I personally would go with the lesser cost item. Good luck...

What tires can fit a 1999 ford expedition xlt

I believe it will fit. If you go to DiscountTires.com you can use their site for alternate tire sizes. Especially handy is the feature which shows you the Speedometer error for different size tires. The site will also show you recommended and popular substitute tire and wheel sizes.

The 1999 model had a 265/65/17 as an alternative. You may want to ask the Tire store you intend to use if they can reconfigure your Speedo to be accurate. Some of the Fords can be done electrically without changing Speedo gears.

I did something similar by going from a "60" series to a "65" series in the same width. On my Grand Marquis, I gained 5% mileage improvement, but have to watch Speedo until I get it reconfigured. I hope this helps to answer your questions.

New battery when i turn on the heat. my battery light came on? why

The alternator should be tested for its operational value in this case. There may be some issues with the charge rate.

Testing the amperage output of the alternator is good for measuring the amount (not the level) of voltage the alternator can produce. This test can be tricky because if the alternator is weak it can still show it as producing amperage. Which is good, but if the voltage is low, it will still allow the battery to go dead. To check the amperage output of an alternator an amp meter is needed. Once the meter is connected start the engine. Next turn on all electrical accessories and raise the engine idle to about 1200 RPM. The alternator should output the max amperage it was designed to produce. Example: a 90 amp alternator should output about 88 amps. Note: An alternator cannot sustain maximum output for long periods of time. If the alternator is forced to operate at maximum output it will overheat and fail. An alternator is designed to operate at max amperage output only for a reasonable amount of time.

((Connect the voltage meter lead the same way you would in a battery static voltage check, Start engine (do not drive) at engine idle the voltage should be between 13.6 to 14.3 volts. If not the alternator may need replacing.)))

I have a 1999 ES 300. The battery starts draining if I turn on lights or a/c. I have gone through 2 new batteries and 4 alternators. It's to the point when an electrical shop says we can run a diagnostic...

alternators come in different amperage rating. connect a good ammeter in series with battery positive terminal after engine is at idle. or connect a voltmeter on your battery. with engine at idle, turn on lights and a/c, raise idle at between 1500 to 1800 rpm. voltage reading should be 13-14 volts. if not, alternator is too small. check the amperage rating of your original alternator. good luck
