I had the same problem. I seem to remember Ii went to the GM dealer and looked through a manual until I located the issue. Be careful, for with the distributor out and if you allign the marks the corrrect way per the manual, you will be aht is called Bottom Dead Center, or 180 Degrees off of Top Dead Center. If you put the belt back on per the repair manual I had, you allign the 2 marks together. Or with the top mark pointing down, and the bottom one pointing up. ** Do the next step with the distributor out **. Then turn the crankshaft 2 revoulitions, then you will notice the 2 marks at the top. This is Top Dead Center. Rotate your distributor rotor to the # 1 spark plug wire, then put the distributor back in.

Does 1992 geo storm gsi have timing belt or timing chain

great question. but confuses <STORM (an ISUZU) with METRO, Swift.
ill assume the STORM is correct and the 1.8l too.
that engine is a ISUZU Real engine,
and is called the
4XF1 ,see facts below.
now the cam answer.

in the uSA this car is the GSI model with 1.8L
see last link for your answer. below. GM official page.
you can also see your cam in the 2nd link below.
the engine is INTERFERENCE. so if the belt snaps, it bends valves
just like all HONDAs do.\

wiki facts.
The larger 1.8 L 4XF1 DOHC replaced the 4XE1 in North America and produces 140 hp (104 kW) and 125 ft/lb (169 Nm) of torque. This engine was used in the 1992-1993 Geo Storm GSi, in the 1992 Isuzu Stylus RS, and in the Asuna Sunfire. In Japan it was installed in the Isuzu Piazza, where it had 150 PS (110 kW).

Do you have to make sure that engine is set to number one tdc before installing timing belt

Yes all vehicles are suppose to be set "top dead center" when replacing a timing belt/chain. Remember to mark the place with a visible marker or colored tap before removing and installing. Failing to set the location will most certainly be death to your engine.
If you are unsure or just need a guide try purchasing a Haynes manual for your vehicle ( for about $19.95 or so) which will give you step by step removal/installation instructions. The great thing I like about Haynes is there are pictures for easy reference.

I need the diagram for a timing belt on a 1992 geo storm

The timing belt will only run between the crank and the cam(s). Usually has a tensioner on one side. You'll need to know where to set the cam(s) and crank to reinstall it.

Or do you mean the accessory belt?

Does a 1992 geo storm have an interfierance engine

If the timing belt broke, expect to replace some of the valves. It does not have a zero interference motor.

Need to install serpentine belt on 1992 geo storm. Is there a tension pulley and how do you loosen it to get new belt on?

Removal & Installation
  1. Except for the 1.8L engine, loosen the pivot and anchor bolts on 1 of the belt's components, then pivot the component sufficiently to release belt tension and remove belt.
  2. For the 1.8L engine, use a 3/8 in. breaker bar or ratchet to pivot the belt tensioner and release the serpentine drive belt, then remove the belt from the pulleys and the vehicle.
To install:
  1. Position the belt over the pulleys.
  2. For the 1.8L engine, pivot the tensioner and install the serpentine belt. Make sure the belt is properly aligned in all of the pulley grooves, then gently pivot the tensioner into contact with the belt. Do not allow the tensioner to snap into position or damage could occur.
  3. Except for the 1.8L engine, adjust the belt tension and tighten the accessory mounting bolts.

Infl rest light flashing no fuel

Your Infl. Rest. Light is supposed to flash 7-9 times when you turn the ignition on or when you start the engine, It should then go off. If it is constantly flashing or comes on and stays on, You have a problem with your airbags and they will not function in a crash. It is unrelated to your fuel issue.
