Have an 88 toyota camry. was fine when we bought it but put in shop for water pump and distributor failed. now the car has no take off power but once moving does fine. engine revs up good but feels like...

Sounds like the ignition timing is retarded too much. When the distributor was replaced it sounds like the timing was incorrectly set. Hope this helps...

1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88' car stalls out. Coil pack might need to be replaced

Check the spark on each plug wire with a calibrated spark tester. One can be bought at most parts stores. If two plug wires that are next to each other are bad then replace coil pack. There may also be a bad ignition module. Also check the crankshaft position sensor.

1988 mustang stalls

I may be able to lead you to the problem area, but it will take some work on your part. I had a 1988 Ford Thunderbird (I have a 94 now), and it sounds exactly like a problem I had. After completely researching everything, spending hundreds of dollars on parts for this and that, it turned out that it was the cars computer brain. I went to pick-your-part and bought a used computer module, and everything was fine. I paid $80.00 for it. Not only was everything fine, but my gas mileage and performance increased. This may not be your problem, but it is definitely something for you to at least investigate. I hope this helps.

88 Toyota Camry won't start

Had the same problem with an '88 Camry. Replaced the battery, distributor, and starter, but it didn't fix the problem. Then, a few years later, when the battery was getting old and tired, I replaced it with a more expensive _heavy-duty_ battery. That helped quite a bit. It didn't totally fix the problem, but made it a lot less frequent.

A mechanic I trust told me that non-OEM replacement rebuilt starters pretty much all have substandard wiring, with bad spots in the windings. A heavy-duty battery maybe cranks out enough extra amps to mostly compensate for this.

1988 camry rear lights.

Look at the wiring harness that runs along the hinge on the trunk lid, driver side. Camrys with lights on the trunk lid are know to break one of these wires.
