The immobilizer light on my dash is flashing, and the vehicle will not start, can hear the fuel pump running when I turn the key, but no crank.

Most likely your key has failed. You should find and try your spare key if you still have it. If not, then you will require someone with a tool to scan immobilizer codes and verify if there is a fault in the immo system or if it simply is saying INVALID KEY. If its faulted, it will require repairs. If its invalid key, you can use your backup key, or have a new key programmed by a mechanic or locksmith with key programming tools

Try to disarm the alarm system first,if that doesn't work, try your spare key,if it works the key is faulty.if this fails, put it on diagnostic machine.,since it can be EWS.

Check fuel cut-off switch if fuel pump is not turning on and you have checked the fuses.

Engine turns over, stalls out and alarm goes off

These vehicles use Fords Securilock transponder system to prevent vehicle theft. Basically, there is a little radio chip in the key that transmits a code to the computer when you start the car. If this code doesn't match the computer, the computer disables fuel and spark so the engine won't run. If you have a spare key, try that to see if it works. If it doesn't work, then the Securilock system needs service. Unfortunately only the dealer can service this system because it is integrated into the vehicle computer.

If your spare key works, then the key you tried to use has a damaged transponder and the key needs to be replaced. If you don't have a spare key, contact a locksmith and have them make you a new key. I have to warn you, transponder keys are not cheap. They can cost easily $75 and some even go for $150. But, that is probably cheaper then having Ford make one and even if the spare doesn't work, when you get the system fixed by the dealer they can program your spare key as well so you don't waste the money on the key.

Car will turn over but not start

Not knowing what year you have you have four possibilities.

A popped fuel pump fuse, If you have one

A bad Main Relay. alot of the earlier Honda's have these on the wall left your left knee, tucked up real tight and hard to access.

A bad Fuel pump

Something bad in the ignition circuit.

Simple test is spray some carb cleaner or brake cleaner or quick start. Just a little just to see if it wall start. If it starts you know you either need a fuel pump or fuse or in this case the Main relay adds power to both the fuel pump and the ignition system.

If it doesn't start then you know you have a Main relay, or crank sensor or ignition module. We get alot of these in for no starts and if it turns out to be an ignition issue we replace the whole distributor which usually the problem once you verify its not a fuel issue.

If the ignition system is working then it should fire with something manually added.

VW Polo starts for about two seconds and then dies. Does any one know what causes it? Its a 1.6 fuel injection 97 model. SA

sounds like you have an immobiliser problem.your car probably has a transponder key.if you have a spare key,try using that one and see if it works.if not,you need to have the car put on a diagnostic machine to see what fault codes come up.have you dropped the key by any chance?if so the chip inside the key has fallen out and you need a new key coded to the vehicle...good luck

sounds alot the the pcm it controls the fuel pump and ign system but the anti theft would keep it from starting because the key has a transponder in it programmed for that vehicle and that would kill all ign if triggered

In a quiet environment sit in the car and turn the key on you should hear a quiet motor noise coming from the gas tank, if you have doubts have an assistant turn the key on while you bend down and listen near the gas tank you should hear the fuel pump turn on then stop shortly after the key is turned, don't try starting vehicle, if you do not hear this sound the pump in the tank has failed or the fuse blew, locate and check the fuse if it blew chances are the pump is in fact seized. It is not an easy job the fuel tank must be remove to access and replace the pump. There is a chance that the fuel pump relay is bad locate and check fuse and relay first before dropping the tank.

1987 4.3L starting difficulty

First off, I'm a great believer in the simple solution. If jumping the relay works, then replace the relay.

As far as a relationship between fuel pump operation and oil pressure, coincidence of operation.

If the new relay fails you, I'll need some more info:
  • Fuel Injected? If you turn the key on (not to start) do you hear the fuel pump come on for a sec then shut off?
  • Hard to start when hot, cold, doesn't matter
  • When it does start, does it idle ok? erratically? High? Won't stay running? Dies immediately?
  • Does it blow smoke? Black? Blue? White?
  • When driving, does it lack power? Stumble? Stall?
Hope it's the relay
