Question about 1996 Nissan Maxima
Went through same problem, had to replace the battery in the remote. When deactivating the alarm, if it makes no sound( stand by the drivers door and press the left side of key remote, you should see the flashers blink. Once when it's armed and multiple times when disarmed, get in and start.

If the antitheft system is armed and isn't recognizing the key for starting, the dealer should be the next place it should be towed for reprogramming the key to the computer.
