Question about 2005 Mazda 6
Alt is short for Alternator or the charging system was not working properly for 2 seconds.
It should go on when the ignition is on and the car has not been started, yet, to test the lamp.
It's possible the belt was slipping, or the voltage regulator was intermittently not charging, or the alternator is going bad.
However, if it doesn't stay lit while the car is running and you do not experience any starting or driveability issues, don't worry about it just yet. It could be just a glitch that won't come back for a long time.
Good luck on driving your vehicle.
