Question about 2000 Nissan Sentra

1 Answer

Abs on dashboard stays lit all the time.

I have a 2000 nissan sentra exalta, the abs light on the dash remains lit. i've had the brakes checked and there seems to be no problem, the brake fluid level is also sufficient enough. can you help me figure this out.

thanks for the answer, too bad the car met it's untimely demise a few days back (not due to faulty brakes though).

The only way to know axactly what happen is with a diagnostic computer.
Because the ABS use a Speed sensor on each of the wheels.
Hydraulic selenoids on the ABS box or Module..
If the light is on. its mean the Anti Lock Brake System is inactive., You gonna brake like any car with no ABS.
I hope this information work for you.

It might be the Transfer Case Switch. Changing it might give solution to this kind of problem. Goodluck!

what you have is a bugga-boo-something is shorting out or corroded-so what this does is to confuse the main cpu that controls the lights-check the light sockets for corrosion-check your wire harness for wires that are rubbed bare or broken- pinched-start with the lighting wires -unfortunately this problem that is confusing the cpu could be any where in the wiring harness-cheers Denny

hello there, had to do some looking up as to what NISSAN EXALTA 2000 actualy is. i reside in USA and we do not have exalta on our streets. here, its a powertrain aka engine and transmission in a NISSAN SENTRA so it should be very similar to our sentra as far as setups except for different body. I think that you have an issue with the CRANK ANGLE SENSOR. i would start with replacing the sensor. is the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light on??? if so, that could be for many reasons and one of them would be crank angle sensor issue. nissan had problem with those sensors. they would cause the car to die. nissan had campaign / free replacement program in those model years of nissan sentra 2000 year model. have the crank sensor replaced. start there. like i said very common problem.

when this happens, have some one look at your brake lights to see if they are lit while you depress the brake pedal. if the light are not lit then the brake light switch is bad.
if the light are lit then the shift interlock solenoid under the shifter is bad

Hey, i checked out the "PLATE" theory, i couldnt find anything in the nissan Database (sorry), if the parking lights work on the car, but not the BRAKE lights, it could be caused by the brake switch, Its located under the brake pedal, its a simple concept... when you hit the brake, the pedal hits a button to trigger the brake lights, its fairly common for these to go out, however, this wouldnt cause the dash lights to not work, you might try looking for a short in your wiring, Best of luck!

The ABS light in my 2000 Nissan X-Terra just went on. From reading above I would like to check my break fluid before doing anythign else. How do I check the break fluid levels. I know nothing about cars so...

Just open your hood and the reservoir will be on the drivers side on the fire wall. It may be caked with fluid on the side but it will have lines for max and min. It should be between that point, if its low, you either have a leak or you need to do brakes.

you might want to check the brake pads. it might be thin enough to make the wear indicator touch the rotor disc.

The ABS system is INOPERATIVE as long as the warning light remains on. Recommend to have an ABS system diagnosis at local repair shop. Recommend to have repairs done asap as this is a safety issue. The brakes will function but the antilock feature will not.

Can you check if there is still brake fluid in the reservoir? Check on the abs pump as well I think they do have a separate resevoir for brake fluid as well.
Cheers.
