Question about 2004 Dodge Ram

1 Answer

I hooked up a trailer to my 04 dodge 2500 (5.7 ltr) and when i plugged in the lights my truck lost all running lights and tail lights. headlights still work and so do turn signals. I checked all the fuses unde the hood and they all are in fine condition. People tell me there should be another fuse box... Can you help me? Thank you -Paul

Your vehicle has a "integrated power module". its a fancy name for a smart fuse box. What likely happened is there is a problem with the trailer wiring. The power module detected the fault and shut down the running lights. The power module will need to be reset at the dealer.

Fuse 15 is a 50 amp fuse for the park lamp relay
Fuse 32 and 34 are 10 amp fuses for the right and left park lights
Fuse 33 is a 10 amp fuse for the trailer park lights.

After it is reset I would not plug in the trailer until the fault is located and repaired.

Wiring diagram for dodge 2005 pick-up tail lights,need to hook up 4 prong trailer light plug in

You are aware that you can buy an adapter that will plug in to harness under truck at back and will allow you to plug a 4 prong directly in to it. No cutting or splicing necessary that way. Any RV shop, as well as most auto parts stores now stock them.

Go to napa and they have the connectors that plug in to your existing wire connection, I don't know if they have the one for yours, but it won't hurt to check, you don't have to cut or splice the wireing with there trailer connectors, plug it in and done.

When I hook up my trailer all the break lights,signal lights stop

sounds like the adpater to the hook-up is bad. or your grounds arent completely grounded. thats where i would start before rewiring the trailer.

I had the same problem on 06 ram, the problem is one of the controll modules under the fuse panel under the hood on the drivers side. My trailer mechanic told me this was a common problem and dodge will only charge about 700 dollars to replace it. he solved my problem by installing a converter on the wires to the tail lights of the truck then running down to the trailer plug. it was most likely caused by a short in the trailer and dodge in their infinate wisdom failed to put a fuse between the trailer and control module. and by the way even though this is a manufacturing defect they will not warranty the module. hope this helps.

Wiring problems

Hi Charlie

Six wire plugs:

Horse, stock or utility trailers:
White = Ground - GD
Yellow = Left turn/Brake -LT
Green = Right turn Brake -RT
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - TM
Red or Black (not both) = Battery, aux power - A
Blue = Electric Brakes - S

Ground should be 10ga.
Others 14 ga
