Backfire is a result of too much air,not enough gas.You need to look at the air system, possibly the O2 sensors, air filter,or some sort of fuel:air mixture control.

I was reviewing some stuff and see that you have received no further help?I must have been a little tired because now that I am seeing again what I wrote,my answer was very brief, not very good analysis, not a very good solution as far as pinpointing the problem, and just overall not good. And all of that together, well,is not good lol.Let me catch up on a few zzz's and I will re-evaluate and think about your situation. If you don't need more help though, please comment it back here and i will get an autolink to what you wrote.I ask many people to do that but few do.If something isn't fixed correctly by me and they do not reply, some days i may answer about 40 questions,it is too difficult to go back and review all the cases, of which easily less than 10% of the ones I answer are ones I have the opportunity to get paid for,I prefer answering the free ones so people can avoid getting reamed by all the crooked shops.Greg

Backfire can be caused by lean fuel condition. No fuel can be fuse, relay, filter or pump. Check for power at pump and if none, trace backwards. If pump runs, check fuel pressure at fuel rail.

It could be that you have picked up a batch of dirty fuel that has clogged the gauze input filter that is part ot the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.

My 2002 LS is hard to start after it sit awhile I change the fuel filter and the spark plugs and the coils on each plug but it still hard to start could it be my fuel pump is losing pressure when it sit...

it is very possible and i can tell you a way to help you see if that is the issue. after your car has sit a while (as long as it usually takes before it acts up) jump in the vehicle and turn the key to the postion just before the vehicle begins to turn over when all the dash lights come on. when the key is put in this position the fuel pump runs for a few seconds and then stops until vehicle is cranked, allow the pump to run for 5 seconds then turn the key back off. then return the key to the "run" postion i mentioned before and wait a few seconds then try to start it. if it fires right up you have allowed the vehicle to build fuel pressure before you started it, indicating you have a fuel pressure issue and you are most likely looking at a weak fuel pump.

The car needs checked for codes the ingtion is more likly than fuel on this car Does it start right back up or do you have to wait awhile for it to start? The crank senser and the ingtion module and the coil are the causes and if it stalls adding fuel to the air intake should start it right back up. if its fuel or filter related how long does it run if less than a minute the filter is possible but if it has to run for awhile then the filter and the new fuel pump aren't whats wrong. if it starts right back up every time, wiggle the key switch as it tries to stall and if you can chatch it the switch can be bad and it happens alot.

Car wont start

if it backfired then there must be spark , (usually) i would suggest checking if there is fuel pressure (listen to hear the fuel pump when you turn the key to the on position) if you dont hear anything then you may have a fuel pump issue..
