Yes, remove the negative terminal off the battery first. you dont want to short circuit the car and blow a bunch of fuses or burn of a bunch of wires. other than that there are no other precuations to take.

I have a 2002 dodge grand caravan and I have to wiggle a wire under the car that close to the oil filter to get it to start I got a starter put on does anyone know what the problem could be

Honestly sounds like the ground wire is not correctly tightened. Is it a thick wire bolted to engine block somewhere ? Needs cleaning and tightening. They are taken off sometimes, to get to other parts and get overlooked when job is finished. Usually a hex bolt. The wire should be tightly screwed to block.

No power to starter silinoid

Replace the starter solenoid, as it is cheaper than that of the starter.
You can also have the solenoid tested at your local autoparts store.

Starter clicking...batt or starter?

If the starter produces a single click it is most likely a worn starter solenoid contact. You can verify this by testing for 12 volts on the small solenoid wire when the key is placed in the start position. If there is 12 volts, then the starter needs replacing.

Lift up the front of your car. Disconnect the (+) cable of the battery. The starter is located in front under vehicle with cylindrical shape. Remove the cable of the starter and solenoid. Remove two bolts that secure starter to engine. Pull the starter to disengage the pinion from the fly wheel.

How do you unplug the starter on a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan. I can't get the connector off of the old starter.

the wires don't unplug. There's a rubber boot on the back of the starter solenoid that you have to pull back, then you remove the nuts that hold them in place. You will then be free to remove the wires.

Where is starter located and how to remove it , for a dodge caravan 1998,3.3l

Starter - Removal & installing
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle securely on jackstands.
  3. Disengage the solenoid wiring connector from the terminal. This connection may be held in place by a retaining nut, or it could be a push-in connector.
  4. Remove the B+ nut and wire from the starter motor terminal.
  5. Remove the starter motor-to-transaxle bellhousing mounting bolts.
  6. Remove the starter from the vehicle. If equipped, remove the starter motor spacer.
To install:
  1. If equipped, hold the starter motor spacer in position.
  2. Install the starter motor into position on the vehicle.
  3. Install the starter motor-to-transaxle bellhousing mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 40 ft. lbs. (54 Nm).
  4. Engage the solenoid wiring connector onto the starter terminal.
  5. Connect the B+ wire and tighten the retaining nut to 90 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Verify starter motor operation.

The starter relay is located in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) in the engine compartment. Refer to the underside of the PDC cover for starter relay location.

Hope helped with this (remember rated this help) Good luck.
