Question about 1992 Plymouth Acclaim

Open Question

I have a 1992 Plymouth Acclaim. The tachometer and the radio both quit simultaneously..Even the light went out in the radio. The fuses are all good. I removed the radio and applied 12 volt power to the wire to illuminate the radio dial and the light comes on. But when installed in the dash it does not, even when all the other dash lights come on. Any idea what the problem can be. Hope I don't have to dismantle the dashboard.

SOURCE: plymouth acclaim ignition repair

the ignition cylinder will run you about 20$ and it is fairly easy to change you can change it yourself buy the chilton book (it will help later) and it will be cheaper than paying for labor although the entire replacement will take less than 30 min

SOURCE: on my 1994 plymouth voyager the 3 wire harness to fuel pump (blue wire) doesn't have 12 volts; should it? fuel pump quit then worked once when hot-wired with 12 volts. fuse and relay is good.

The wire should not be hot until the relay is triggered. The relay does not get triggered until the ignition key is turned on. It will run for 3-5 seconds or until the system pressure it at max.

when you say coil, do you mean the ignition coil or the pick up coil (aka pickup module)? It is located under the rotor in the distributor-if you replaced the distributor (did you really?) it should have had a new unit in it, the only other thing I could guess is you have some sort of issue with a fuse or relay for the ignition.
