Auto Trans. :
If you monitor the shifting of the transmission you may notice it stays in one gear, this is an internal fault and the trans. will have to come out for repair. If it is shifting through all gears it may possibly be a slipping torque converter.

Standard Trans. : Slipping clutch

How do i fix ford xf sticky accelerator

I suspect there should be a spring to return the throttle lever to the idle position. Without the spring, the throttle plate will stay open and allow the engine to run at high rpm.

Why is there an intermittent loud hissing noise from engine compartment, usually just after startup?

You just hear it better if you lower the roof or open your windows. It could just be your air intake. Unless your rpm`s are really racing to above 2500 or it is at high idle for a long time, you shouldn't kick it down. When it is cold your choke is helping to warm it up quickly. Nothing is really working properly until it reaches normal operating temperature. Let it warm up. If you are still concerned, listen under the hood for better perspective and when in doubt, take it to a professional.

Cranking noise in back of Rav 4

If you hear the noise from middle or back, it might be a binding drive shaft for the 4x4 system that's making the noise. It's really hard pin point the problem area without verifying the vehicle. But the only things in the center\back of the vehicle that would make a noise in that speed range would be drive shaft and\or differential. Check the exhaust system well. There's a very big muffler on this model rav4 which's common to rust and make all kinds of noise. Usually it goes bad at the edges where it's welded. Check them as well.

Hi all My rpm runs unusually high when i start my car in the morning plus I hear an embarassing crackling sound when I accelerate in low gear. But once it's in high speed the sound stops. Joshua

1- The problem in the high idel at first start could be the TPS "throtal Posistion Sensior" is going bad. I'd take it to your mecanic and ask him to take a quick listen most gareages wont charge just to listen to it real quick.

2- is this a crackling noise? OR is it a vibrating noise could be a heat shild, the weld could have broke off on one side causeing a viabration.wont affect the car just will be anoing...God luck

What will cause my Toyota Hilux to smoke with loud engine noise at high rpm? When accelerated to speeds of approimately 130km/hr, the engine races of, which feel like no control to the vehicle, smokes (...

If there is a blockage in the engine breather, that can cause this to happen and if not corrected, in a diesel, can cause runaway and it will destroy itself.

Power (acceleration) loss at mid-high RPM only

Loss of acceleration, the backpressure noise and such are kinda tell tale signs of that converter having problems, feel the exhaust out of the tailpipe it will be warm normally have someone step on the gas and if its super hot it'd be a step in the right direction.
