Truck goes to normal tempature but after while runs hot replaced thermostat but same result upper hose felt hot bottom hose cool

top hose should be hot, all water from engine goes through upper hose, then radiator to cool and out lower hose.

Air lock cooling system


Not sure I follow your wording on the different temps. If the system is full of coolant and working correctly, the thermostat should open at 195 degrees which would be several miles down the road. Once the thermostat opens both radiator hoses should be warm. If the water pump is not working the engine will get hot very quickly.
Have you tried running without the thermostat to see what happens ?

Water tempature gauge shows hot when car is cool ;and hasn't been driven


It sounds like the temp sender may be bad. This is the sensor that sends a signal to the gauge on the dash (as opposed to the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor that goes to the ECU instead.) It is located on the bottom front of the thermostat housing (which you will find if you follow the large hose from the top right of the radiator.)

Before replacing, make sure the connection is clean and secure, then check the wiring for any obvious failures.

My tempature gauge will register normal tempature after engine runs and heats up but will drop back to no tempature.


ZI suggest you have the engine thermostat replaced, it is likely sticking open and allowing the engine to cool down. The thermostat is under the cover that the upper radiator hose connects to on most GM engines.

That is normal, it will not get hot without the thermostat. The water cools in the radiator and falls to the bottom and the bottom hose is cold. This is what cools the engine and stops it from overheating.

Car is overheating, heater not working, fluid levels ok. Found pinhole leak in upper radiator hose and fixed, yet car overheats. What can I do?


Are you getting propper curculation through the radiator?Remove radiator cap (cold) start car and inspect, put cap back on and allow it to warm up. After the engine has reached normal opperating temperature check to see if the bottom radiator hose is getting hot.Does it have electric colling fans? If so make sure they are comming on when the engine gets hot. If not make sure all fuses and relays are OK.A radiator core blocked or restricted or dirty can cause over heating. Afaulty thermostat can cause over heating.If the heater is not working then the engine is not circulating the collant properly. and the watter pump could be no good.If the bottom rad hose does not get hot then there is no circulation and the watter pump is no good..It could be a faulty thermostat.If the upper rad hose stays cold after the engine is at normall temp replace thermostat.Do not run engine to boiling over point or serious engine damage may ocure.Incorrect ignition timing can also cause over heating. Myself I think that the bottom half of the radiator froze up on you. or the water pump is no good. Please let me know the end results.Good Luck and have a good XMASS.

2002 Jetta 1.8T blew 40A cooling fan fuse - overheated, destroyed 4 way cooling hose connector - replaced all- now it still runs very hot, inside temp reads 190 (but temp is much higher), cooling fans run...


Then replace the thermostat, because if on lower hose not hot and on upper hose scalding hot = antifreeze flow blocked by the thermostat wich remains closed!!!

Radiator problems


it may be a little off, but the lower water hose seldom gets very hot,, as its this hose that suplyes the engine with ""cold water"" the hot water comes out the top hose,, drains down the rad and cools on the way down then enters the engine through the bottom hose """if your engine stayes running in the normal place on the gage,,,and not over heating""" why are you spending money for nothing???""
you wont get the bottom hose to run hot unless the engine is cooking

Tempature gauge still goes to h


, ckeck the upper hose to see if it is hot , than ckeck the bottom hose , is it cool , the temp sould be about the same .if it is super hot on top and cold at the bottom hose , the raditor may be blocked, and the coolant is not flowing. you can try to flush the radiator . look to see if there metal shaving in the coolant . if there is the radiator is breaking down. this happen to me , my car would over heat change radiator car is a,ok easy fix . radiator barn .com

Where is the thermostat on my 1996 buick century?


Follow the UPPER RADIATOR HOSE from the radiator to wherever it leads to. Under the end of that hose and thermostat housing.is the thermostat.
