Question about Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

My daughter's 2003 Oldsmobile Alero was blowing white smoke from exhaust. She said that it was a bit sluggish when accelerating. I started it when I got home this evening and it blew white exhaust so I hit the gas hard twice and it stopped. I took it for a spin around the block and no more white exhaust smoke and was not sluggish. Still concerned.

White smoke is normaly an indication of water entering the combustion chamber of your engine due to a broken head gasket. I am surprised that it stoped but I think that the probelm will come back.

blackish greyish smoke is a problem :>) Sound like you need a tune up because it wants to stall because it is running rich.

2002 olds Alero Oil is going somewhere but not on ground or exhaust

Look for oil in the coolant, it will make a murky paint like floating substance in the coolant overflow and radiator. If this is the case you may have a leaking head gasket or intake gasket allowing the cooling system water and oil to mix. You may also notice a bluish white smoke from the exhaust when accelerating if the headgasket has failed.

Blowing white smoke out carb when starting

If exhaust is coming out of the throttle body (carb) when turning over then there may be a valve problem or valve timing problem on the engine. Does it run and the problem goes away after it is started? Are there any other problems that I should know about before signing off on this problem?

My 2001 alero shakes at stop lights dies from time to time and when the light turns green it looses powers sort of like a drag

  • Sounds like you have some really fouled plugs. I would start with a tune up or plugs and wire at least. When your plugs, or even one plug, get fouled it creates a misfire and when at a stop light etc the cars will shake a bit and almost feel like it wants to **** a bit. Then when taking off it putters and lacks proper accelerations abilities.

  • Also make sure to use good gas as bad gas will cause some sluggishness too.

  • Hope this helps.

I have a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL Sedan that is overheating. Where is the problem?

check coolant level, make sure car have half antifreeze and half water,if coolant level okay, car overheating when starting up driving is faulty thermostat and radiator cap.if car over heat while sitting in long line of traffic.your coolant temperature sensor could be faulty, or coolant fan fuse blowed or relay failed.hot wire cooling fan if it works, problem is the wiring or pcm, if every thing working okay.check engine oil if look like milk shake or you have a lot white heavy smoke coming out the exhaust, you have a blowed head gasket.

2004 Jaguar X-Type Problem 2.0d White smoke from exhaust when accelerating also power steering sluggish whwn cold

(1)That is the nature of the beast
just have to accelerate slower
(2) take a look at your coolant level
if you are adding coolant on a regular bases
you may have a small blown head gasket.
(3) if you only see white smoke at first starting the engine in may be just cold and
needs to warm up

White smoke from exhaust

Is the car sluggish at high speeds? If so, your head gasket might have gone out.

Olds Alero sluggish acceleration

Hi

You need to get the cars ECU (cars main computer brain) scanned for fault codes. The symptoms you are having are often caused by faulty engine sensors. The scan will identify which of these are at fault as these faults are retained within the memory of the ECU. This will give you a definite direction on the problem.

Ideally you should ask the dealer to do it as they have the software specific to your car - however your local Auto Parts store will often do this for you for free with a generic scanner. Many of these sensors are easy to change out yourself if you can identify which one is giving the error.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Thanks.
