Question about 1998 Volvo S70

1 Answer

Our 1998 Volvo V70 doesn't start in the morning when it's cold (usually below 40 degrees). Once it's jumped it starts right away and will start again that day (unless it sits for 10-12 hours on a really cold day. I've been looking online and asking around and had my mechanic check it out. Possible answers I've heard - replace fuel pump relay, may need a bigger battery (we replaced the battery a year and a half ago). Any suggestions?

YOU REPLACED BATTERY.BUT CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RIGHT COLD CRANKING AMPS.AND CHECK BATTERY CABLES.MAKE SURE THEY ARE CLEAN AND TIGHT.IF BATTERY CABLES OVER 10 YEARS OLD REPLACE THEM.MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING RIGHT VISCOSITY MOTOR OIL.YOU SHOULD BE USING 5W - 30 ENGINE OIL IN COLDER CLIMATES.IF YOUR OIL TOO THICK IT WILL CAUSE ENGINE DRAG WHEN CRANKING IN COLD WEATHER.

1998 Volvo S70 won't start when cold!

Check the B+ cable. If you remove the fuse box cover in the engine compartment (on the drivers side), and you'll see a post with a nut on it, securing a group of red wires. The connector should be a clean copper color. If you take it to a shop, have them perform a voltage drop test on the cable. If it is corroded or burnt, replace that cable!
