Question about 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue

1 Answer

2000 olds drove to work fine this morning this afternoon it would not CRANK, just a load starter/solenoid click. changed starter this afternoon, still same load click, checked battery volts 12.6 , cleaned terminals and tried jumping...same starter click. engine is not froze, ran wire to starter from battery ground, no change in click. checked fuses and relays (swapped crank relay with cooling relay) no change. Instrument panel lights up like a xmas tree, speedo and tack gages go are pegged when trying to crank. . There are 2 wires on the starter, the smaller wire has continuity with ground...is this right? I am about to the end of my knowledge

This might noy be of much help, buy I would try a remote starter switch hooked up to the starter, with the ignition switch in the run position..then push the remote start switch.
This would give you an idea if the ignition switch is a part of the problem

Does the motor crank (starter engaged and turning the motor)? If it does not crank, do you hear the solenoid clicking (engaging the starter gear into the flywheel teeth)?

If you have power to the starter motor solenoid, yet it will not start, then replace the solenoid.
If the solenoid is clicking when you turn the key, but if it still doesn't crank, then change the starter motor.
The solenoid is on the top of the starter motor.

To check the starter, have someone hold the key in the crank position while you tap the starter with a hammer. This is a common practice. This is likely a temperature related problem.

check all the large cables, at battery , engine block and starter for corrosion or loose bolts, you can also do the tap the starter with the hammer test, thats what you do if you have a full battery and solenoid clicking, means starter is on its way out

Check the MAP sensor and the wire harness to the map sensor. Next time it will not start, try disconnecting the MAP sensor and see if it starts. IF it does then change the sensor. Good luck and hope this helps.

2003 Toyota Sequoia won't start.

Have you gotten this problem fixed yet? If not what is the condition of the battery cables( corrosion free)? Also how old is the battery? One dead cell could possibly cause this problem.
