Angelo, I already verified the horn works if connected to battery. Also, the horn relay is good.

  • paul_eaton Oct 12, 2010

    Angelo,

    Yes and both were OK.

  • paul_eaton Oct 12, 2010

Could horn have anything to do with air bag, which code 21 on flashing light.

  • paul_eaton Oct 12, 2010

    Angelo,

I have no voltage across the two (2) wires going to horn when pushing the wheel button. Also no voltage across relay. Could there be a fusible link, open in the circuit?

Find the horn and use a test light to try to ground out one of the two terminals to see if it sounds. If it does, then the horn is ok, but it may be the switch in the steering wheel.

To test the steering wheel switch, take the horn cover off of the steering wheel and search for the lead for the button and try to ground it out. It may sound if you do this. If it does, then there is something wrong with the button connection at the clock spring.
---
Here are instructions on how to remove and replace the steering wheel which can help to understand how to troubleshoot the horn switch which is related to the clock spring electrical connector:

Steering Wheel Removal & Installation To Remove:
NOTE: Make sure the wheels are in the straight-ahead position. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.
WARNING
To avoid the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, notes and instructions in the deactivation procedure. Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

  1. Remove the driver side air bag.
  2. Disconnect the clockspring electrical connector.
  3. Remove and discard the steering wheel bolt.
  4. Use steering wheel puller and remove steering wheel.
CAUTION
Removing the steering wheel without using a puller can damage the column bearings. Using a suitable puller, remove the steering wheel.
Remove the steering wheel while routing the wires from the clockspring through the steering wheel.
WARNING
To avoid the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, notes and instructions in the reactivation procedure. Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
To Install:
  1. Install steering wheel, while guiding wires from clockspring through.
  2. Install new steering wheel bolt. Tighten to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).
  3. Connect the clockspring electrical connector.
  4. Install the driver's side air bag.

To operate, tth e horn needs a good ground, and positive voltage. With a volt meter, or a 12 volt test light, see if you have battery voltage (12.5 to 13.5ish) at the horn while someone is pushing in on the horn button.
Note, ...some horns ground to the vehicle by their mounting bracket and have one wire for the positive volts.

If you have a bad clock spring, you may have no horn as well as an airbag light on. The clock spring allows voltage to go from the wheel through the column as the wheel rotates. Loosing contact to the air bag will cause the air bag computer to see te resistance difference and turn the light on.

Hi. You can test if the horn is defective by tapping the positive and the negative wires of the horn to the battery. If horn wont respond when you tapped it directly to the battery then it is already defective.

All the best!

Usually, the horn is powered all the way to the horn switch, where the ground wire is connected to the ground. The thing to check is this, or to ground one side (preferably not the live side) of the horn to test this.

Fix this please

If your horn doesnt work either you have to remove the steering wheel and there is the connector for the horn/cruise control. If nothing broken there, check the clock spring too!
