Bad PROPORTION VALVE ... the back brakes should only be doing 30% of the stopping with a bad proportion valve it will send more pressure to the back during braking and cause it to lock up. Good Luck and thanks for using FIX YA

Same here guys damn brakes stick can only go in reverse. However i do find storing the car in a warm garagef yo can get there) usally will fix the problem after a few kicks to the bck ties whne the cars warmed up

is there one or two threaded holes near the center of the drum? buy one or two bolts that will fit these hole(s) and start cranking them down with your ratchet. Your brake drum shoud start pulling itself off as the bolt(s) push against the hub.

It's probably the emergency brake cable that is stuck. Check that first. When I get a drum brake that is totally frozen up (like been sitting for 40 yrs) I often use 2 or 3 pry bars, WD40 and short handle sledge hammer to pry a little on both sides, liberally keep penetrating oil squirted on the shoes and tap on all sides. Eventually drum will come off, but sometimes it takes like maybe 1/2 hour. Shoes will have to be replaced, but they are probably shot anyway. The drums for the caravans are cheap, so I would not only get them, but the spring kit from the parts house as well.

I just had a similar problem with 1997 Hardbody.

Cause: The E-brake cable was binding up inside the drum causing the e-brake not to disengage - despite the handle being released inside the cab.

Solution: Look for 2 threaded holes in the drum. Insert two bolts and crank these bolts in. They will eventually work to push the drum off the wheel. Be careful to go slow and evenly (don't snap off the bolts!). Penetrating oil and mallet will help the process.

Rear drum brakes


Sounds like brake shoes are knocking. Try backing up while pumping brakes or using the emergency brake a few times to tighten up shoes. If those don't work you may have to manually adjust shoes with star wheel or maybe defective (out of round) drum

I think it is time to find an accredited brake specialist . At the best with a hub it may be bad wheel bearings but I consider it a problem with the mechanics and their lack of commitment to fixing your problem

When bleeding the brake, should the engine be running


Engine should be off and pump brake about 4 times to release pressure, then bleed,driver side rear,passenger side rear,passenger side front,then driver's side front,use a bleeder kit.If pressure won't hold and you have drum brakes,remove both rear hubs and check wheel cylinders for leakage.Check flexable fuel lines at wheels and it could be a bad brake master cylinder.

Yes you can fix it. Jack wheel off ground after loosing lug nuts. Take off wheel. Pull drum if it wont come off hit it around the center with a hammer. If it has never been off there might be little washers on the studs break them off. If drum still won't come off there are holes in the plate behind the drum the shoes can't get past the ridge on the drum so you take two screwdrivers through the hole and lift up on the lever and use the other one to unscrew back off the shoes by moving the wheel up or down Remove drum take a bunch of pictures of the shoes so you can see how to put them on. Remove shoes. It would help to buy some cheap brake wrenches.Spray the brake line with some type of penetrant and remove brake line. Unbolt wheel cylinder and install new one. Replace brake shoes and springs Have drums turned or replaced if bad Install drums and bleed brakes.Start at the passenger rear fill it with brake fluid put cover on and have someone pump the brakes until the pedal is as hard as it will get Hold the pedal down and loosen bleeder screw on back of wheel cylinder brak fluid will squirt out and when it stops him holding his foot on the floor tighten the screw and pump the brakes up hard again bleed it about 8 more times go to the drivers rear and do the same there then the front passenger side and then the front drivers side make sure the brake fluid stays full if it empties out of the master cylinder to the bottom you will have to start over12_9_2011_6_45_35_pm.jpg

I was checking back brakes, emergency brakes. The axel on the passenger rear is welded to drum. Why wouldyou do that. Cannnot put check back brakes or install new emergency brakes on back passenger side....


They wouldn't and couldn't, or the rear drum would not turn and the car would not move. You need a special fork tool to go behind the drum and adjust the star fitting in order to release the drum and then you will be able to check the linings and cable.

Hello, The rear rotor has 2 sets of brakes on it. The other thing is to look for slight movement in the driveshaft when it clunks. Depending on the rearend, some have to have both rear wheels off the ground to turn each side. And of course the trans in Neutral.

With the rear wheel you have an Emergency brake and a drum brake inside the center of the Rotor.
The rear of the brake backing plate has a rubber plug which is covering the Star-wheel adjustment for those drum brakes. You can try to loosen the Star-wheel to disengage the Emergency brake shoes. You can try pulling the brake cables toward the cab, to loosen the cables.

If this does not help, your Emergency brake shoe probably rusted off the brake mount and is jammed inside the drum. The linings fall off the metal like banana skins. I can tell you that if the Emergency brakes are a State safety requirement, you need to consider new rotors because the drum portion is usually trashed with rust.

The rear passenger wheel is locked up


hi this sounds like you might have rear brake drum internal problems, does the parking brake work ok? what might of happened is that one of the brake shoes inside the drum/disk might have thrown its covering and has gone around inside the drum and locked the wheel up like the parking brake is on there really isn't anything else to go wrong that would cause that, you will need to remove the rear disk/drum if you can, as it could really be any internal part broken like a spring or the self adjuster...hope this helps please vote

2000 F150 Passenger back brake locks up always


Check condition of brake drum and brake linings.
Check brake drum not out of round,
Check for fluid or oil leaks in the rear brake area.
Check rear brake proportioning valve is working correctly.
