Check engine light on, Temp gauge is on low side. I get three lights flashing on ECU. I think its either 12, 21 or 30? Can't really tell if all long or short pulses.

Need to know what you are working on. Carb engine and codes make me think this is and OBD-1 system. Could just be a bad thermostat if gauge is reading true.

My dodge caravan dashboard cooling gage is giving false reading.how do I repair.

How do you know its wrong? What have you done to establish that opinion? Gauges are pretty reliable, you need to check the sensor on the engine, usually on the thermostat housing. They are cheap and easy to replace by someone with a little experience. Don't do it with a hot engine. If you have an old style mercury thermometer, check the water temp when warmed up against what the gauge says. Thats warm up not full running temp. 10 mins or so of idle or until the gauge starts to move.

2000 BMW 528i running hot

is the cooling fan cutting in ? run the engine whilst stationary with the hood up , give it a little gas 2000revs and wait for the temp gauge to rise ,the cooling fan should be heard cutting in , and off again once cooled the engine temp down ,this may take 10-15 mins but you have to be sure the fan is cutting in or you may cook the engine

sounds like there the same issue and I would first check the coolant level to make sure there is enough in it.

Temp. guage indicates overheat 10 mins. from startup

Hi Reggie, I'm glad to help. TWO things I want you to check. ONE: You have changed out a lot of stuff, so you may have air trapped in the cooling system, you'll need to remove the radiator cap and let it run until your at operating temperture, while watching to make sure it doesn't overheat on your of-course. If after running the engine say 30 minutes and topping off the coolant if needed, it still runs hot. Move on to: TWO: If you have the electric fan, some do, some don't. If it is electric make sure the fan is coming on, if it doesn't come on then you have found your problem, replace the fan assembly. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Reggie!

Temp gauge not registering and cooling fan's run continuously

the temp gauge works of a different sender to the coolant sensor. IT has 1 wire only and changes resistance as the water heats up there by moving the needle on the gauge up the scale Check that the wire is tight on the sender unit and if so then replace the sender unit.. The difficulty in re starting the motor may be because it is over heating but you would not know this because of the faulty sender unit.

2002 ford e250 5.4. engine temp gauge giving false reading. drove 10 min. went to store came back 5 min. started van and temp. gauge pegged at highest level. realized engine was fine drove home, 2 blocks...

Well, it can be a sending unit issue, they are pretty inexpensive, so worth while to just replace it. Do be aware that the temprature DOES normally do what you describe. The condition is called heat soak, where the temp goes pretty high, due to no water circulation, after shutdown. This is normal and some vehicles run fans after shutdown to help. Usually not an issue with properly functioning cooling system that can hold pressure.

Remember the coolant recovery tanks? Their purpose was to recover teh small amount of coolant pushed out during heat soak.

No heat. Temp gauge barely moves, but hoses to/from core are hot

If the temp. gauge on the instrument panel is OK, test and eventually replace the temperature sender, and check the wiring to temperature sender.

Replacing the whole heater core is not a simple operation, test sender and wiring first.
