1995 jeep cherokee 5.2 wont start when cold outside when it starts i backfires then runs after its warm

Change the temperature sending unit/temp sensor. When starting, the sensor will tell the computer to put the engine in cold start mode to give a bit more fuel and raise the idle a little so it WILL start and keep running without ever touching the throttle. Once warm-up is completed, this sensor will tell the computer to stop the cold start mode and go to normal run mode. THAT is your only problem.

Change your ignition coil. Mine wouldn't start in the cold. I had to give it gas & it would backfire until it warmed up.

CAR NO START PROBLEMS:-----

It can be the issue with weak battery or faulty battery or if battery is ok,then its faulty starter causing the issue.

Check EGR value, clean or replace. Also PCV valve replace it is cheap.

fuel system problem; filter, pump, injectors.

Have the tranny checked out.

Check the temperature sensor...it tells the computer when it's cold, and changes fuel mixture accordingly. (same as a choke used to do)
Just curious...If it only starts warm, how do you get it warm???

Sounds like you already know the problem. Sometimes you can adjust switch position on column but if that does not work, change the switch. To get to it you need to drop column off dash mount but don't have to remove it.

get a couple bottles of gas line antifreeze .. if you don't already use it and add it to the gas.

Try cycleing ur key a few times before actually cranking it alot of the time wen a fuel pump is about to go it wont prime cycling the key will prime it. As for the fuel gauge thats part of the fuel pump its called a sending unit and in the jeeps its all in one unit. it sounds like your fuel pump is about to go tho. i had the same problem with my 93 jeep grand cherokee laredo. i replaced the fuel pump and it runs fine now u can get it from your local autozone for about 140. hope this helps let me know
