Question about Ford F-150

Try to turn the ruck on and it just clicks once on the starter solenoid, what should i do?

Hi you can try a simple trick , get a friend to turn the ignition on as if to start the motor, with a small hammer or long bar, tap the starter motor this should release the solenoid and the vehicle should turn over, make sure you are not near any moving parts when it does start, if then you turn the motor off, and try to start it again with the key as normal and it does not start, but will start with hitting it again, you need a new or reconditioned starter motor as this one is worn and needs replacing...hope this helps

Will not start, battery is new, it just clicks and nothing. turn it off, try again and nothing, try again and it starts


Try cleaning and tightening well the battery connections along with the battery wires to the solenoid and starter motor.

Bad connections and low voltage of 12 volts can result in this anomaly.

2003 trailblazer wont start. I turn the key and get one click.


Take care when following these tips.
The click is the starter relay but the starter is dead. If its the type with a solenoid riding on the outside try a jump lead straight on the terminal that has the battery lead on it.
If nothing and there is a second terminal closer to the starter body try that one. If the starter responds with a spin you will probably have to remove it, fit a replacement solenoid or another starter.
Tapping the starter only works if the solenoid is a bit dicky.

Have you checked to see if you can turn the crank with a wrench ?
And are the cables good from the battery to the starter ?

Get a long metal rod (golf club putter will do) and tap the starter ands if it then starts it's a sticking solenoid or worn contacts. I just pulled my starter and cleaned the heavy duty copper contacts with fine sand paper to get rod of the pitting and the bottom side of the copper ring on the plunger that engages the gear. It's only 3 small screws and the plunger slide out so you can get to all the parts. Easy to do and fixed mine. If you jack the ruck up you might be able to remove the 3 screws that hold the cover on the solenoid and do it without removing the starter. Use radio shack electrical contact cleaner & lube on all the internal parts before reassembling.

Could either be the ignition switch, the starter solenoid or the starter itself. Ask a mechanic to wire start the vehicle, by bridging the contacts at the starter solenoid. If the car starts, then the ignition is the culprit. If the car doesnt start, then it could be either the starter solenoid, or the starter. In my experience, if it clicks once, then it cant be the ignition switch, and if it clicked more than once, it couldnt be the solenoid. So i would look at the solenoid as the probable culprit.

I had a problem with my starter solenoid my truck was not starting. i have a 1996 ford ranger i bought a new one the truck started a few times and then it stopped. what is my problem.


You should have your battery tested & make sure that the terminals are cleaned & well protected wth grease once charged fully. Since you crossed/jumped the solenoid & didn't get it to start until jumping the battery (providing extra voltage), that rules out the solenoid and the ignition switch. Sometimes a battery will test full without a load but will not provide the voltage to the solenoid to actually complete the circuit, thus the clicking sound. If the battery is strong, and the starter bad, the solenoid will click solidly once, passing full voltage to the starter that will either turn,hum, or do nothing. good luck

If your here just one click when you turn the key to start then i suspect you have a starter going bad.If you heard several clicks while turning the key over once then that would be a weak battery.:)

The starter is bad. Solenoid is good, the starter itself is bad. You can remove it and take it to Schuck's/Chief's/Kragen/NAPA, they will test it for FREE. You can't beat free!!!

1995 ford f150 makes single loud click when trying to start


Does it make the loud click just once, or will it continue to click when you turn the key?
If it is just once, then there is still a bad connection someplace for the main power. If it continues to click every time you turn the key to "start", then it is probably the starter solenoid itself that is bad. There are two big terminals (bolts) on the solenoid, and if you connect a 12V test light or meter across them, you should see power there. If the light doesn't go out (or very dim) when you turn the ign. to 'start', then the solenoid is bad. If the light goes out and the starter doesn't turn, then there is something wrong with the starter. I suspect the solenoid also because it works better with a strong charge on the battery.
