Question about 1988 Honda Prelude

2 Answers

It looks like our brake light issue may be a simple switch that's supposed to be under that dashboard and near the brake. Does anyone know where a diagram is or where I can find this switch?

Just look up right where the brake pedal is and you will see the switch, which the pedal rests on then you're not pressing it. When you depress the brake pedal, it moves away from the brake switch, releasing the contact and lighting the brake lights.

I have a 1998 cartier, and it is stuck in park and i have know brake lights what do i do

The reason for both problems may be the same thing.....the brake light switch. You must press the brake pedal in order for the shifter solenoid to release the shift lever. This action also lights the brakes lights. If the brake light switch is faulty or out of adjustment, neither will work. Under the dash on the drivers side, follow the brake pedal arm upward towards the dashboard. somewhere near the top of the arm will be a switch that rests against the arm. When you press the pedal downward, the arm swings away from the switch and the switch closes. If the switch is faulty, this won't happen.

How do I get to brake light switch on 1995 chevy truck15

It requires a bit of dexterity. You will be laying down under the drivers side of the dashboard under the steering column. Find the brake pedal and follow the arm upward from the foot pad. Near the top of the arm, along its rear edge, you will find the brake light switch mounted.

The brake light stay on

If your referring to the rear brake lights, it can be either a switch or a relay. The switch is located on or near the brake pedal, the relays are located under the hood in a black rectangle compartment. If your referring to dashboard light, I would check for a stuck parking brake.

Hey, i checked out the "PLATE" theory, i couldnt find anything in the nissan Database (sorry), if the parking lights work on the car, but not the BRAKE lights, it could be caused by the brake switch, Its located under the brake pedal, its a simple concept... when you hit the brake, the pedal hits a button to trigger the brake lights, its fairly common for these to go out, however, this wouldnt cause the dash lights to not work, you might try looking for a short in your wiring, Best of luck!

you need to check the bulb first, they may be busted. if not , check the brake switch located where the brake pedal is. near the top part, so you have to look under your dashboard.

When I step on the brake pedal the light does not go on

Schematic probably isn't necessary and these are contained in any Chilton or Haynes service manuals which may be available from your public library if you don't want to spend the $20-$30 for them. We never own a vehicle without one.
The brake lights are nearly always activated by way of a switch that is mechanically controlled by the brake pedal itself and is found underneath the dashboard near the top of the pedal suspension. Check to see if the cables are connected to the switch; they are normally connected with 'quick-disconnect' plugs. If they are connected, the switch has probably failed. You can verify this with a simple multimeter if you have one; this again is something we keep in each vehicle since the cost is under $20 at Radio Shack and lower at Harbor Freight Tools if you have one in your area.

Under the dashboard, near the top of the brake pedal on the back side, there is a switch, disconnect the wire, if the brake lights go out, the switch is bad, need to replace it.
