did you replace the car battery just before the faults occured?
If so then with some cars the windows and sunroof needs to be programmed in the simular way to how new key fobs are programmed

Did you try spraying starter fluid or carb. cleaner into the engine to see if it starts ? Hooking up a fuel pressure gauge to see if the fuel pump is building pressure is the proper way to test . Not guessing . What engine ? 5.4 l v-8 . Test electrical circuit , fuel pump relay , inertia fuel shut off switch . Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuit's using a wiring diagram an DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ?

Where can I find an engine compartment diagram


is the vehicle able to move ? if so i'd take to a dealer who has the same model and have a look too see the undamaged wires etc as you would be better off with a new loom than trying to repair the wires if it is only at the peripheral end of the electrical system

I believe the rev unit is on the injector pump and part of the wiring that you may have not connected or you have a different model pump

Battery drains while sitting


Hi Anonymous, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for drop in aprerage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at "BOTH" ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v while cranking replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.

8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor.

I have a ford escort rs turbo s2 1988 mk 4 it starts then it stops it starts because of the cold start valve im sure there is somthink wrong with the fuel metering unit as it is not pumping any fuel in to...


The crankshaft position sensor gives a report on engine rpm and this is how the fuel pressure is set for a given rpm. The cold start sequence could temporarily enrichen the fuel and adjust rpm then hand off duties to position sensors. Also cam timing sensor needs to work to maintain fuel flow.

RPM is too high when i start, then goes down when on Drive. What could be the cause? Throttle Body? (landrover discovery 98)


RPM meter regulator springs may be loose on the inside of the dashboard. So long as there is no mechanical failures either usual engine capacity, no obervable capacity malfunctions, the dashboard screws are probably loose due to rigorous terrains encounters. Depending on the type of dashboard, the particular loose spring may be replaceable. Else, an entire dashboard area containing the display meter readings would require replacement due to compartibility parts requirements.

1986 5000 TQ running issue


Try cleaning the rubber hoses associated with the idle speed stabilisation valve. If that doesn't help, try disconnecting the wiring plug from the same unit, if there is some improvement then replace the unit. You could also try checking the fuel warm up and cold start valves, these should give specific electrical readings on a meter at set temperatures, (I should be able to produce the relevant values and test procedures if you need them- let me know). It's possible that the injectors aren't opening at the correct pressure or that their spray pattern is poor. A fuel injection workshop should be able to service them for you. You could try running some injector cleaner through the system-you simply add it to the gas tank when you fill up.
