Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

I have a 99 Silverado Z71. There is a short or bad connection in the trailer taillight connection in the main connector coming off of the trucks wiring harness by the spare tire. I need to know what color the taillight wire is so I can trace the problem. The trailer lights will go out and when I wiggle the connector they will come back on. The trucks taillights are not affected by the problem. Thanks George

How can i get my silverado cruise control to work?

check your taillights as of 03 there is a circuit board under the rear of these trucks that tell the ecm engine control module if the taillights are functional if one of the bulb sockets has a bad connection or if a bulb is partially burnt or if someone has tampered with the wiring like using the wrong plug on to tow a trailer ,the ecm will not allow the cruse control to function

Taillights wont work 1984 GMC sierra

I would start with the fuses,Check under the dash in the fuse box. Make sure all fuses are good. If there is a blown fuse then replace it, If the fuse blows then you may have a short in the wiring to tail lights, also check wire connections at the rear bumper area.
I have seen the connector go bad, test power going into and coming out of connector to tail lights. if there is a trailer hitch on this truck then check where the hitch wiring was connected , check for bad connections.
If the front park lights work then it may not be the light switch but rather a bad wire. Here is a wiring diagram to help you.
have a good day and i hope this is helpful. If there is something else i can help with please let me know.3_6_2012_5_22_32_pm.gif

I have a 05 silverado all three break lights do not work. When I hook up my boat the break lights on my trailer function just fine. And all bulbs and fuses are good any ideas.

Have you checked the bulbs? Some people don't beleive all the lights can burn out at once but when one brake light is on they are all on and for the same amount of time.
If the bulbs are fine then check the connection where the trailer plug is to the main harness. Some of those connectors go between the main harness and the tail lights and the connector can go bad.

Have a 98 Silverado Z71,I was checking the trailer wiring connection,The signal lights all went out,the inside directory arrow doesn't even come on. I checked the fuses on the side of the dash and all seem...

Check the fuse panel inside the engine compartment it is a large black box with a lid and has several large wires going to it the fuses for the trailer harness and lights etc are in there.

NO TALILIGHTS NO CLUSTER LIGHTS

tail light fuse is blown. If you have trailer hitch/wiring check to make sure connector is not corroded or shorted.

1999 Silverado 1500: does my chevy 99 1500 come with trailer brakes...

if its set up for trailers with brakes, it should have small black box under the dash above the pedals; if there is one you can adjust the brake timing to syncronize the trailers brakes with the trucks; if there is not one you can purchase one and mount it and run a few wires

Lights keep flickering and battery light blinking on and off. bought new battery. problem still there

Check any plugs you have for hooking up trailer lights. Sounds like you may have a short. I had a similar problem in a '93 Z71 and it was the plug for trailer lights. If thats ok, check that the main ground wire to the battery is secured tightly to the truck. In an 80's Scottsdale that wire had corroded at the truck end and alsp caused a similar problem.

I only have taillights coming out of the trailer plug

so, the trailer has no brake lights, or turn signals, just tail lights? Everything (all lights) on truck work ok? What do you have for trailer wiring hook up 4, 5, 6, or 7 way? There is no fuse, the lights all work off the tow vehicle lights, so if the tow vehicle lights all work properly, it's probably a wiring problem, such as bad grounds, loose connections, etc. Get a volt meter and check voltage at truck plug to see if power is getting that far. If truck plug in is ok, wiring problem is the trailer. Make sure all grounds are tight and rust free, that's a common problem.
