I have a Buick lasabre 3800 and on my mass airflow sensor one wire is clean and one lookes burnt . Would that cause my car to act up?

Yes, a dirty or bad mass airflow sensor can cause a car to run badly. I had a 1999 Mazda Protege that had this problem. You can get a can of mass airflow sensor cleaner from an auto parts store. Be careful to hold the can a few inches away from the wires so as not to break anything. Mass Airflow Sensors are fragile. Let it dry before putting it back in the car. If your car has the check engine light on, they can check the code for your as well. Where is the mass airflow sensor located on a 1997 Buick Skylark 2.4 liter

Right off the air box its the first sensor on the vehicle .
The air is sucked through the air filter then goes through the mass air sensor so its in the air duct .
They have a spray can cleaner you have to remove the clamps and connections and remove it .Spray it with the cleaner some times it works .
Its a rather expensive part but its vary important because it is the first sensor that the computer reads to adjust all engine controls .
Also don't through it away you will get a lot for the re core value.

    Code 157

Error code 157 on your vehicle indicates a problem with your mass airflow sensor. The mass airflow sensor gives a reading based on the air intake and output within the engine compartment. A properly functioning sensor will contribute to better fuel economy. In some instances, you may be able to clean your mass airflow sensor to clear the error code, but the error will most likely return in a short time. Fortunately, replacing the mass airflow sensor is a reasonably simple repair.

Is the metal flap on Maf sensor on 92 Lexus es300 supposed to move with gas pedal if car is not running? Will a bad maf cause no apart or a no start condition?

No. The metal flap in the mass aiflow sensor is not connected to the throttle control. The air moving through the mass airflow sensor moves the flap. The flap works a variable resistor inside the mass airflow sensor. The more (and faster) the air is that moves through the sensor, the farther the flap will move...that is how it measures how much air is entering the engine....that is what a mass airflow sensor does.

A bad mass airflow sensor can cause all kinds of fuel control problems that can range anywhere from a hesitation on acceleration to a complete engine no-start condition.

Mass air meter not reading vane postion

    hey rob_andersen,

yes their is a way to replace the mass air flow. Get a can of brake clean or throttle cleaner, throttle cleaner is going to work best. remove the until and spray it down with throttle clean, let it dry for about 15 min. and reinstall it.

Now a little warning for you, IF their is no visual damage to the mass air flow then you can do this successfully. Now the reason why I always replace them instead of spraying them down is because is MOST cases the mass air flow will start acting up again. Sometimes it takes a weeks, sometimes months, sometimes years its hard to say.

But the worst you have to loose, is it doenst work an your out 5 bucks for the can of fluid.

The mass airflow can get dirty and you will get trouble codes for everything under the hood except for the mass airflow. Try unplugging your mass airflow and driving the vehicle, if your problem goes away you need to clean the sensor. Buy some mass airflow cleaner though because other cleaners can damage the coating on the sensor.
