Thanks for the suggestion. I am looking for the grounding.

An added mystery I had the Altenator re mounted

I small well protected blue wire is not connected now. I did order the Saab ground cable and regulator.

All looks very well but the extra wire concerns me. I did pickup a Bentley manual and I am learn much about my diamond in the rough.

I do know the switch is faulty, it does not return. It does signal when brakes not on or head lights are off.
Headlights on or brakes on no signals.
I wonder if I can re route a bit the center light to tail lights.

Just beginingto enjoy my late model Saab

I think you may have hit the target.

The brake light circuit going to each side brake light travels trough the turn signal switch and the third brake light does not go through the turn signal switch - so the problem is probably right there at the turn signal switch. Check to see if a circuit at the signal switch is hot only when the brakes are pressed and if there is only one hot wire when the brakes are pressed the turn signal switch is bad. There should be two wires that are hot ONLY when the brakes are pressed going to the turn signal switch (with the turn signal switch in the OFF position).

Most likely you have wired the switches the wrong way. This wiring diagram may assist you:

Why dont you simply replace the switch? It is a bit difficult to remove. You will have to go under the driver door. You will find the switch there (most likely, or else I may have confused it with a different model). It is attached by tabs, just break them off. They are self adjusting tabs, so when you wire it the new one, it should fit snugly).

Either the ground wire is not working or disconnected or the wiring is short.

1995 saab 900 convertible turn signals and brake lights not working

Check your fuses, even fuses not associated with lighting. If all ok it is probably the muti-funtion switch on the steering column, It is the switch that your turn signal lever connects to.

I have no signals and when brakes lights are on, lose brake light to either side turn signal is set on

Hi!!

If you activate the turn signal switch and you step on the brake pedal, the turn switch (on the steering column) deactivates the brake light to make the signal light more visible. The bulb for the stop and turn lights is the same.

Turn hazard lights ON. If they don't blink, replace turn/hazard flasher, If one or more lights don't come on, replace bulb.

Check fuse and circuit wiring for broken or loose connections. If all looks fine, check following:

If front turn lights work fine, check brake/turn bulbs.

If turn lights come on but don't blink, replace turn signal/hazard flasher.

If front and back turn lights don't come on, replace switch on column.

Let me know how it worked out, Good Luck

Changed fuse and brake light still doesnt work

Did you check for voltage at the light socket before replacing the fuse?
Was the fuse blown? If so, you need to find out why it blew. (fuses do not blow for no reason) If not, why did you replace it?

Did you check for voltage in and out of the brake switch? Brake switch failures are common on Dodge trucks. There should be voltage going in, but none coming out the other side until the brake pedal is depressed. If there is voltage going in, the fuse is not blown. If there is still no voltage on the other side when the brake pedal is depressed, then the brake switch is your problem-child.

The next step is to check for voltage in and out of the multifunction switch. (turn signal switch) The brake lamp voltage is switched on and off by the turn signal switch. Failure of the turn signal switch can cause a "no brake light" symptom. This is a common failure among most makes of vehicles. This failure can often be verified by stepping on the brake pedal and wiggling the turn signal switch. If the brake lights flicker on and off while doing this, the mutifunction switch needs to be replaced.

Brake light dont work

check the fuse for the brake lights. The brake lights and siganl lights use the same bulb filament. The parking and running lights use a dimmer filament in the bulb. There are 2 filaments.
Your brake lights work through the multifunction switch which operates the signal lights. If the signal lights work, you may have a bad brake lamp switch which is on your brake pedal arm.
Let us know what you find.

If there is no brake lite switch on the arm of the brake pedal then look to see if there are two wires hanging down with a plug on them, as perhaps the previous owner removed the brake lite switch with the intentions of replacing it and just never got around to it.
