Question about 2000 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

Re; 2000 Buick Park Ave. The door handle (driver's door) suddenly stopped working from the outside. It does not have the tension that it used to have when it was working. It will work from the inside, and will lock and unlock from the inside or outside using the key. I have removed the door panel and the 'actuators" (rods) seem to be in place. I am concerned about access to get the old one out and new one in and connected to actuators. How difficult is it to replace, any hints, special tools. Local shop Quoted $195.

I did not expect to get an answer so soon! My wife is out with the car and so I do not have the vehicle here to look at right now. I do remember that the rods appear intact ( coming down from the handle going to the latch mechanism). So I suspect it is the door handle itself. Access is my concern. Do I need to remove the glass from the window, and how is that done. (difficulty special tools?) I believe it is a 10 mm Wrench that I need to loosen the two bolts. Suggestions?

Can we continue this later in the week when I have time and the car to work on. Any chance of continuing on Saturday? How do I access you without having to pay again?

Hi. This is not actuator problem. This is door handle issue. If the car panel is still open, check the door handle. There should be a metal rod connecting to handle going to the door mechanism. Rod might not be in place or disconnected. Check also the door handle if there are worn plastic. This plastic is responsible for holding the metal rod in place.

All the best!

Hi. Tools should be used is 10mm wrench. unscrew the two bolts. Window should be in closed position so that you can unscrew the bolts.

How can a door panel be removed from the drivers side for a 97 Buick park ave if the door won't open from the inside or out for the handle to be replaced.

Sounds like your latch locked up. Ok this is how I do it up to you to do it the same way. I lay on the seat while somebody else is on the outside pulling on the latch and door while you inside kick the door as hard as you can as close as you can where the latch is more then once. Good luck.

I installed a new door handle on my 2000 park ave and the door still doesn't open. is it the door latch now?

In order to put your new door handle on your vehicle you have to take the inner panel off, then disconnect the screws and pins to replace. Be sure to put everything back the way it was so you don't get any rattles.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Door handle on my 2000 Buick Park Ave wont open the door, the door will open from the inside, is a part on the handle broken

Either the linkage fell (broke) off, or the handle itself broke. Most handles are only plastic afterall. You can buy new outside handles for fairly cheap ($20 or so). Installing them can be easy or tough depending on the vehicle - soem give you room, some do not. But the job is very straight forward - start by taking off to inside panel. Locate the (should be two) bolts/nuts that hold the handle in place. Take off the lock (held in by retainer clip) and the linkage (metal rod with plastic retainer clip). like I said, pretty straight forward. (make sure the window is all the way up before you start).

1997 buick park ave 4 door right front door handle won,t work from the outside

Order the exterior door handle AND the clip that attaches the rod to the exterior handle from your local dealership ( any part in the salvage yard will have at least as much wear as the one U are replacing ) Also order a can of touch up paint matching your car. After you have the parts and have painted the new exterior handle, roll down the window and remove the interior door panel. ( instructions have been posted at 'replace door lock buttom' ) Two nuts, one on each side, hold the broken handle in place and must be removed ( DON'T loose them ). Loosen the rod from the clip at the top to allow a bit more room, But take note on the way it is attached ( you will need to reattach the rod to new handle ) To install new mechanism put the new clip on the rod, carefully place the gasket and the new handle in place and install nuts to secure. Test the door handle and make sure it works. Reinstall interior door panel.
