Question about 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

Ignition lock housing

I have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix and I am trying to find a part number or item part locator (or even exactly what this is called). I need the part that the ignition lock , key lock slides into? It is the housing for the key lock cylinder that is mounted onto the column itself. I have it removed but I am having trouble locating the part online. The plastick gears on the inside were damaged in an attempted robbery by an apparently bad thief who simply inserted an easy-out into the key switch and cranked the lock cylinder over with a wrench or something. Anyway, the gears on the inside fell out all over the place when I removed this housing unit. It is made of lightweight alum, and has 2 sets of numbers on it. Here are the numbers:
1:) 26036493

2:) 6320A

I would appreciate any help you might provide.

Ok all what you have to do is have a fax ready and call the dealer
then they will send you an ilustration or picture with every single part inside the steering column, i had repaired many of this, and then you tell them what you need, that might be the easy way to do it, and don't be afraid this parts are not too expensive.

1997 Grand Prix will not start

The same happened to me. I found out you have to have a full 12 volts in the system or your key can be locked. I would say try the connections at the battery or try another battery. Once I made sure the connection was tight at the battery the key came right out. Hope this helps
