Not necessarily. VW's are very precision built high maintenance cars, unlike other cars which will tolerate a certain amount of neglect. Go back to Autozone and get a printout of all the codes. There is no doubt that a lot of them can be fixed by cleaning up wires and wire ends, tightening connectors, checking for vacuum leaks, etc. The smart thing to do would be to get a copy of the service manual for your Beetle. The only supplier for this is Bentleypublishers.com but prices are reasonable. This manual will give you the info you need to track down the problems. It may also be wise to consider joining a website called vwvortex.com. It's a forum that is full of repair info and tips or hints and people willing to help. It is also model specific and free. Hope this helps.

I am trying to diagnose the root cause behind several different codes that the OBD scanner is reading. My car is running fine and great and one day the CEL comes on and I get worried. I take it to AutoZone...

Probably not. A lot of times when you have many different codes on a vehicle that seems to be running great, I'd suggest the actual circuitry that reports codes or something in the computer. Take it to your local dealership and they can do a troubleshooting for you. Autozone CAN test your gattery for you, but I doubt that it isnthe cause. Most Autozoners have only the very basic info...take it from a former one.

Check engine light came on after convertor was replaced. code po 137. Replaced both o2 sensors and still have the same code and check engine light

Well you would need to use a scanner to monitor the data coming from the sensor after the cat. Code 137 means the data voltage is too low or zero. The sensor generates ac voltage based on the amount of unburned oxygen in the exhaust.
The actual problem could be an exhaust leak closer to the engine, or that new cat may not be up to oem standards.

ENGINE CODE P1189 2002 MONTE CARLO

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P1189

Description: "Oil Pressure Switch Signal Voltage Is High"

The engine oil pressure switch closes when there is low oil pressure, making the sensor signal voltage low. The switch opens when the oil pressure is above 4.5 Psi, making the sensor circuit voltage high. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the oil pressure switch and sends a class 2 message to the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) to tell it if the switch is open or closed. DTC1189 is set when the PCM determines that the sensor signal circuit is high with the ignition switch in the RUN position for more than 10 seconds.

Both the PCM and IPC must be scanned and the data must be checked and verified before the actual cause of this code can be accurately determined. This can be caused by a number of different things including: low engine oil pressure, a malfunctioning oil pressure switch, broken wires or bad connectors, or a defective IPC or ECM.

Battery light and check engine light comes on but doesn't stay on more than 10 miles or so

Have the vehicle scanned for codes (autozone does it for free).
Then have the charging system checked out ( including battery) and address whatever codes the scanner found.
