Start the car....turn on the AC full blast....pop the hood look at the compressor to the left (front of the car up top) there are two parts on the pulley....if the center part with the 3 bolts is not spinning then your compressor is shot .....if it is spinning then you probably need an AC recharge

Transmission is not junk. You need to replace the valve body with a rebuilt one. The cause of reverse not working is because the booster valve cannot create sufficient pressure to get into reverse (reverse requires the most pressure). The booster valve is worn down and the valve body needs to be replaced, rebuilt is the way to go. This is from not changing the fluid and filter every 20,000 -- 30,000 miles to keep gunk from building up and wearing down the valve.
The transmission is fine, don't let anyone talk you into putting another one in, especially for thousands of dollars, NOT THE PROBLEM.
first get it scanned for codes 2nd look at the air filter, and the mass air flow unit sitting on top for leaves or dirt , then check the air intake bellows that runs to the intake check it for cracks? also look and listen for vacum leaks around the engine possible cracked hose causing ecm to get false signals from airflow meter? good luck
