Yes, no problem as long as there was nothing else running on the A/C belt.

My BMW X5 2008 airconditioning wont work after driving through heavy rain and deep puddles

how deep of water were you in??if the alternator belt got wet as did all the belts.. they wont "hook up" untill they dry enough to grab..did your battery light or check engine light activate? this means your car was running on the battery until the belts dry out enough to reconnect without sliding over the pulleys..when this happens all power goes to the engine..

AC compressor put load on engine causing engine shake vibrate.but check make sure AC compressor mounting bolts tight and drive belt correct tension.now if AC compressor very old most time bad compressor cause more load on engine causing shaking real bad.

Some time when i start my car the engine will make a humming sound. and some time when i am driving the engine will make the same noise.

Turn off the airconditioning to see if that helps. If it does, then it is likely the airconditioning compressor.

Remove the water pump drive belt. Feel the water pump for free play. If excessive, then replace the pump. You can try spinning it too to see if it's noisy.

WIth the drive belts off, start the car for a few seconds. Twenty seconds tops should do it. Not too long as it will overheat.
Is the noise still present. If not, then check all pump bearings, pulley bearings, tensioner bearings, water pump etc as the noise is one of those things.

I have juct replaced alternator belt but now need to replace power steering/ aircon belt. is it ok to drive without for a short distance

It won't harm anything on a short drive. Remember that it will be much harder to turn the car especially in intersections so try to plan ahead. Hope this helps.

AC Compressor seized up

Go to the parts store tell them the issue and ask if there is a shorter drive belt that will allow you to bypass the AC compressor pulley

Is it possible to have the system description for the belt drive explained in 4,000 words or more?

The belt follows the same pattern, but when the air conditioning is turned on, current flows through wires in the compressor, creating magnetic fields, in both the moving parts and the stationary parts. When two magnetic fields interact, it takes some mechanical force to overcome. Hence, electricity in to the compressor means a greater mechanical load on the belt.
