SOURCE: High oil Consumption, BMW M5

HI THERE.BMW M5's CAN USE 1 LITRE OF OIL FOR EVERY 621.4 MILES OF HARD DRIVING. THE CORRECT WAY TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL IS TO GET THE OIL TO NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE.SWITCH THE ENGINE OFF FOR 1 MINUTE AND THEN CHECK THE OIL LEVEL. THE LEVEL ON THE DIPSTICK SHOULG BE BETWEEN THE MIN AND MAX MARKS. ONLY TOP UP OIL WHEN IT REACHES THE MIN MARK ON THE DIPSTICK. BE SURE TO USE THE CORRECT OIL- CHECK YOUR OWNERS HANDBOOK FOR SPECS. ALSO ALL THE INFO THAT I AM GIVING YOU IS IN THE OWNERS HANBOOK AS WELL.I USE AN OIL CALLED "ROYAL PURPLE" IN A 10W40 VISCOSITY.

SOURCE: 2001 Isuzu Rodeo 4WD. CHeck Engine light on and

After market spark plugs could be the problem.
Reinstall the old plugs and see if that fixes it.
This vehicle has an ion sensing ignition system and is real sensitive to the proper spark plugs. I would get the proper plugs from the dealer if the old ones work.
The codes P1311 and P1312 are ion sensing codes.

I have a Peugeot 206 hdi consuming a lot of oil.

Is there any leaks you notice if not check the exhaust pipe for traces of oil. Is the exhaust smoking if so then a compression test needs to be done to verify if the piston oil rings and scrapers are in good order

Oil consumption

Difficult one this ,does it blow out blue smoke ? whats the mileage ? ,need more info to try to work it out as this can be tricky and could be ok ,now with natural oil it could be gummed up piston rings and just using a nice diesel/petrol oil designed for turbo diesel engines might help clean the ring grooves due to its detergent qualities but if this is a high mileage engine then it may be due for a rebuild ,most oil consumption is caused by worn rings/bores or valve guide seals .

My 98 Rodeo is only getting about 6 miles to the gallon? Any ideas as to why?

at 6 miles to the gallon the engine will not be running properly
if it is running well then you have a fuel leak in a hose somewhere or your method of calculating the consumption is flawed
to get a consumption reading , fill the tank completely , take a note of the mileage and use the car normally you have to refuel again
fill the tank completely and take the mileage again
now deduct the first mileage from the second to get distance driven and use the second fill amount to get the fuel consumption for the distance covered

I need to know how often I am required to change the oil on my bmw 740il (2000)...The recommendation is not in the owner's manual. Thanks!

I would recommend every 5000km / 3000 miles OR 6 months.

If you do high mileage then switch that to 10,000km / 6,000 miles OR 12 months. Use top grade oil though.

Have your cam seals checked. Cam seals are a big problem on these cars and a major source of oil leaks. Another source is the oil cooler gasket but that doesn't appear to be the issue here as your leaks are well above the oil cooler. Good Luck.

A monrg ago I had, continued....

if it drives, then it is driveable. if the turbo is leaking exhaust, it is not necessarily dead, but it is likely not functioning up to it's potential, but it depends how severe the leak is. The bigger the leak, the less drive the turbo has to spin itself up. The vehicle can function just fine indefinitely w/ a completely non-functioning turbo. The turbo is a really cool device, but it's about as essential as your floormats. As far as the price goes, does that $2000 include a new turbo? If so, is that really necessary? if it's just the turbo's gasket leaking you should be able to get away w/ just a gasket to fix the leak. A turbo can be a messy replacement if it is needed as it is the single hottest component in the whole car (it actually glows red when it's working hard since the turbine can spin up to 140,000 rpm). Anything that gets that hot tends to degrade the bolts and nuts that hold it in place over time. If you do decide to do this, keep in mind that there is a matching turbo on the front bank of that motor that is the same age and could potentially be near having the same problem. As far as the O2 sensor goes, it increases your gas mileage by making your engine run more efficiently. O2 sensors go bad over time, and if you're not seeing blue oil smoke coming out of the tailpipe, i wouldn't worry too much about the oil-contamination issue.

Blue smoke from exhaust

Blue smoke is a sign that oil is being burnt in the combustion process. It is normally a sign of high engine mileage. Definately a compression test would be in order to try to pinpoint the cause. In addition to high mileage it could be something like a broken piston ring or a valve not seating properly. It might also be possible that you turbo has a bad seal and is putting oil into the air as it spins. This problem should definately be looked into soon. Hope this helps.

clean your engine and look very carefully where the oil leak really come from, the cause why this leak happen, the engine was shutdown while the engine temperature is hot. usually the leak will come from the turbo. the engine must be idle for 3-5min before shutting off.
