Question about Mercury Grand Marquis

Have had these codes a year now and can not solve the issue recently changed PCV valve but did not solve the issue

First--you gave us no vehicle description
Second-you gave us no drivability issues or problems your having
Third-Why would you drive around one year, with a check light on and codes,that is neglect and abuse
Fourth- PCV Valves-never need to be changed,clean if you like, every four years,they do absolutely nothing. They are only there, to regulate air flow from crankcase to induction. Educate yourself.

WILL CHANGING THE PCV VALVE HELP SOME WITH MY OIL PRESSURE


PCV valve isn't likely to change your oil pressure at all. All it does is vent the crankcase to your intake.

I don't know your engine, but some have both a "sending switch" and a "sensor" for oil. One for the light, one for that gauge.

You could also have a bad wire from sensing switch to gauge.

This is a tough one could be mass air flow sensor ,oxyegen sensors,a fuel filter. a vacum leak, a pcv valve if i missed anything just google po 171 &174 look for fix ya this issue has been addressed many times first check the vacum lines includeing the line on the pcv valve for cracks or splits in the lines .I would do the fuel filter if it hasnt been changed in the last couple of years , if still a problem the MAF sensor if your happy with my advise please leave me with great feedback

My 94 honda accord is idling up and down when in park or neutral whats the problem


hello, i just had the same problem. i have a 94 accord 4 cyl, and the rpm would sit at 500at normal temp. i cleaned the iacv the ficv. there is also a screw under the throttle body( i forgot what is is called, but you screw it back in), that seemed to help for my fluctuating idle problem. i recently changed my pcv valve and now my rpm sit at 1000. so i think that you need to change out your pcv valve. only 2.99 at autozone. hope you found this helpful

My 1991 Buick Regal cranks right up but lopes when in idle. Shuts off sometimes in drive and reverse. But still starts right up. Recently changed spark plugs and wires, pcv valve, MAP sensor. Car runs...


Hi, have to checked to make sure there is PCV flow? I see you put in a new valve, but did you check it with the engine running? The hose or port may be clogged.

The Check Engine Light (CEL) comes on when the computer stores a fault...There are a very large number of reasons why the light is on...Take your vehicle to an auto parts store and they will run a scan of the On Board Diagnostics to identify the fault code...Codes begin with a letter followed by a 4 digit number...(P0401 as an example)...When you have the code send a comment and I'll solve the problem..The PCV valve on the 4.6L is located in the drivers side valve cover towards the back.......................Guru...saailer

I have a 2001 dodge grandcaravan and it started surging while driving and the transmission wouldnt shift into drive or overdrive. So I had it put on a computer and the code for the output speed sensor...


I never change a PCV Valve. Wash them out,and move on, to the next thing on your list. The PCV regulates air flow,from your engines crankcase,to induction,to prevent pressure build up and remove and burn blowby gases Etc.
Why would you change the speed sensor,just because you got a code. The code is the symptom,not always the causes of the issues or problems.
You have driveability issues with the engine. Work on that first, e.g.--surging
Then go to trans issues,such as solenoid valve body.
You need professional help here. Too high tech and too much to know, to fix in your driveway.

Sounds like no gas is getting to the carb. Or it can be a fuel issue. Bad fuel pump or clogged filter can be the reason, it can be solved by replacing the fuel filter and fuel pump fuse..
Failing EGR or PCV valve. Changing the PCV valve; this can affect starting, especially in cold weather and will allow you to start the car, but then it will die. EGR is similar, but affects more than just starting. The PCV tends to be ok after warm-up.
Everything on a car works together: Simple oil change or air filter change, or fuel filter change make a car start better.
Also there could always be a malfunctioning sensor, you can test this with the help of a mechanic or buy buying an OBDII code-checker at a store.

2003 ford taurus idle problems had trouble codes


A code P0174 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters can cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
  • There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor. and your solutions are.
    • In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner . Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling
    • Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
    • Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

2002 ford taurus almost seems like its missing when driving,idle.


You will need to do a running compression test. Sounds like you have ring issues. Too much blow by causing excessive crankcase pressure. Also pull the dipstick. Put your finger over the hole with the engine running. It should be pretty nuetral in pressure. If you have vacuum you have an intake leak. If it blows pressure you have an engine issue.
