Question about 2005 Ford Focus

1 Answer

How long should it take to fix a power steering rack leak? How much is one? How much should it cost to get fixed? I was quoted a $1000.00. 600 for the part and 400 for labor. Does that sound right? I have 2005 ford focus.

If you change your Power Steering fluid every 30,000 mile, you may not replace a rack every 5 years.

If you go to a dealer, which is not necessary, a $1000 would be cheap

I would go to a local shop and expect about $700.

Need to flush entire system, and install a filter on cooler return line, or you have no warrantee on new rack

Fixing power steering leaks in 2005 Toyota Highlander

The lines. you have 2.
high pressure and low pressure. combined, they cost around $400 at dealers but can be found cheaper online.
labor at a shop to replace both lines calls for 2.3 hours, so you will pay their cost per hour of labor.
plus shop fees and tax. (fees cover shop supplies like fluid, gloves, etc)
If the problem is the power steering pump itself, the average cost at shops for the part is $450 (part only) plus 1.6 hours of labor.

if the issue is the steering rack itself, you can find that part online for $350 on average.
If you just let the shop order the steering rack, they may hit you for $1,200-$1,400 just for the part, and labor times for that job is 4.2 hours.

Please note, the link I have attached may notbe the correct part for your toyota. You would have to search for the correct vehicle.
include engine size and other required info like "Toyota camry LE, 2.5L, front wheel drive"
Hope this helps.

Fix power steering leak

You need to determine where the leak is originating. The possbilities are:

1. Leaking from the power steering pump.
2. Leaking from the high pressure hose at the steering rack
3. Leaking from the return hose at the steering rack
4. Leaking from the steering rack boot(s).

Once you find the leak source, replace that component.

If there is no oil leak from the steering rack, check the first power steering oil pump. But if the steering wheel doesn.t turn at all-change steering rack.

I have a slow power steering fluid leak in my 2001 vw beetle how much would it cost to fix. and where could the problem be coming from

could be a leak in the pressure hose, could be the return hose leaking, could be the gearbox leaking,i'd get under it with the engine running and have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth and see where it leaks from, if the pressure line is leaking its about 25 to 30 bucks for a new hose,
