Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

All of a sudden my tranny started to make a noise that sounded like a soda can grinding on the highway concrete. Then after I stopped it would not go into reverse and made that noise again. I checked the fluid and it was 3/4 of a quart low. Does anybody know if my tranny is toast or if I can replace the sincrose?

Sounds like it came apart inside it happens, usually they are rebuildable recommend a professional shop. If you do not want it rebuilt sometimes you can find a junkyard that sells your transmission and it usually comes with a warranty. Just remove and replace.

The car is a manual tranny car, your synchromesh gear is not engaging properly, take to a tranny shop to check it as a bearing may be out in 3rd gear.
Hope it resove your query.

Won't start. Harsh grinding sound from starter

Starter has teeth that mesh with teeth on the flex plate . most of these type grinding noises are do to missing teeth on the starter gear or flex plate missing teeth .Does your vehicle have a automatic transmission ? Have you had starter replaced lately ?

Harsh grinding noise while in gear and car won't drive!

Had the exact same thing in my 93 and it was the CV Axles - they have a C clip that hold them in place - sometimes the C clip and fail; sometimes you simply have to replace the CV Axles - much cheaper then a tranny; a good suspension shop should be able to diagnos w/o it costing you an arm and a leg.

Sudden noise, whining in 1st gear, reverse jerky

Sounds like your final drive pin in your differential broke causing the main spider pin to tear through the case.Catastropic damage.Check for severe fluid leak under car.If no signs of leaks, check dipstick for greyish blk colored fluid. If this is the case you will need to replace transaxle & flush trans cooler.hope this helps
