Question about Chevrolet Malibu Classic

1 Answer

Hello guys, I have a 1998 Chevy Malibu with a 3.1L V6 3100 series. I have just replaced the motor and I thought my alternator was dead. So I replaced it and got a brand new battery. The system is still NOT chraging and the battery light in the dash still lights up apporx. 45 secs after it starts. I have checked the battery and the alternator and both check out just fine. All the battery wires are fina and connected properly. All other electrical components work.

How to replace pigtail connector on blower motor for a 1998 chevy malibu

You have to cut the wires and solder, or use butt-connectors, to hook up the new one. I also recommend replacing the blower motor resistor. Having enough current to damage the connector has put a lot of strain on it also. It is also in the same area as the blower motor.

90 % chances you also have a shorted alternator it kills the battery.
I have two Luminas and one Malibu and Corvette (mid/late 1990- 2000's) they have the same problems... suddenly dead batteries
Please check alternator when replacing batery.

1998 chevy malibu cant find dip stick to check transmission fluid

Many of the GM front wheel drive transaxels of that period didn't have a dipstick but relied on filling the fluid with the proper amount for a empty condition, the thought pattern was that if the transaxel was low it had to be drained and repaired then refilled.

Chevy Malibu Check Battery Light

the problem with my malibu was the plug going to the alternator. i went to the junk yard and cut a plug end off the wiring harness and replaced it on mine and it's been working fine. i don't know why it drains the battery with the broken wire in the plug, but it did. i found the problem by wiggleing the wire while my wife watched the dash for the battery light to go out. ken!
