1986. Why does gas pedal get 'stuck' sometimes and keeps accelerating?

disconnect the cable at the throttle body and move the cable back and forth through out its full travel to see if you feel a rough section in its travel or a binding. if so then the cable is frayed and needs replacing. if none is found then with the cable still disconnected move the throttle by hand slowly to see if it moves freely. if not then the throttle plate may be dirty needing to be cleaned around the plate and shaft or the shaft is worn causing the binding.

Why does the accelerator on my 94 seville seem to stick and slowly accelerate

Wild guess the Throttle cable is frayed and "sticking" in it's enclosure. or if you are lucky it needs lubrication. Or possible the throttle mechanism itself needs some attention. Live in a "salt" area? Corrosion causes a lot of bad "behavior".

Gas Pedal Sticks

When my car had this problem it was frayed cable. The frayed wires can catch on the inside of the cable jacket or at the end of the cable. That would be my suggestion.

My throttle is stuck wide open

P)robanly a bad accelerator cable. The strands of the cable, when age takes its toll, will fray and unravel, can get stuck inside the protective sheath and hang up. Happened to me three weeks ago. Called a junkyard, cost $20 for a good cable, and it worked fine. Fairly easy to replace. Take careful note of how you take it off at the throttle body and at the accelerator pedal and the cables routing from the firewall to the throttle body.
Good luck.

It's hooked to the throttle cable. It's roundish plastic disc & can be rotated by hand. Sometimes the cable frays & sticks the throttle open. It could also be caused by a sticking floor mat that has jamed up underneath the accelerator pedal. Try tying the mat to the seat frame to stop it from jamming up.You may have to change the throttle cable however. Hope this helps. Good luck!

The accelerator cable on my 94 toyota 4 runner SR5 v6 is frayed. How do you install a new one?

disconnect cable connection at throttle body by loosening retaining nut and removing cable from attachment. follow cable to firewall and disconnect cable from fire wall a rubber grommet may need to be removed with a flat blade screwdriver and gentle pressure. under dashboard, at top of gas pedal, cable is attached by clip, disconnect. and pull cable through and into vehicle. reasembly is reverse. when connecting to throttle assembly make sure there is about one quarter inch slack in cable.

Two major reasons for this are dirty throttle body bore (clean with carb cleaner) and frayed throttle cable (replace cable)
