Question about 1997 BMW 7 Series

Performing a radiator flush, truck is overheating after refilling radiator with water and a POP noise occurred. Thermostat was replaced and continues to overheat.

I think coolant is the issue in ur BMW. consult a dfealer and make sure u get the right coolant.

I have a 1988 chevy s10 4 cylinder. Its over heating off and on for the last week or 2. I just replaced the thermostat and flushed my radiator but its still overheating

Drive the vehicle until operating temp. Turn vehicle off and CAREFULLY put hand between engine and radiator. If you feel any cool spots on your hand on the radiator side, you have blockage and are only using a fraction of the radiator to cool with. This is most likely the issue. But here is a list of what I would do first. Drain fluid. Remove thermostat. Install thermostat housing without thermostat. Run a flush through engine following instructions for deep cleaning. Drain . remove hoses. Run water through block. Make sure water can pass through. Replace thermostat. Run hose through radiator. Replace all hoses fill it back up and check again. Also replace hoses if they are old or weak. If the problem occurs going up hills but seems OK on flat ground I would blame the radiator.

air in a fluid system always goes to the highest point in the system. ensure that the heater control is in the fully on position. Find the highest point in the cooling system and loose off/remove the hose at that point to allow air and water to flow out Refit and refill the radiator . As a point of interest ,,water pumps are seldom the cause of overheating. They leak and make a noise but the overheating will not occur until the coolant level is reduced . I would be looking at a partially blocked radiator , head gasket, cracked head , condition of radiator core fins and faulty thermostat.

My van is overheating. The coolant is full. The heater won't get warm. The fan is working.

Check your thermostat to see if it is sticking. You may need to replace it. It is located within the large hose coming from the radiator and at the engine where the bolts attach.

The antifreeze reservoir is full and doesn't hasn't fluctuated, yet the vehicle is getting very hot and smokey smelling. the pressure gauge doesn't reflect overheating butts clear at the antifreeze isn't...

is the water pump working and circulating the antifreeze. if it is working, I would flush out the system and replace the thermostat before refilling system. you can buy radiator flush at any auto parts store. you can back flush system through radiator. just follow directions on back of flush bottle. have a good one!!

this sounds like a thermostat fault, but also could be the sensor switch to the radiator but is more likely the thermostat, it should be located at the front top of engine, follow the top water hose to the engine and you will find the thermostat housing, also just a heads up, these had a problem when first made, according to the known fixes and problems with VW's the hoses corroded inside and started loosing water, this could be wise to get the system presure checked to...hope this helps

My car is overheating. I just replaced thermostat and recently replaced the water pump. I checked for water leaking but dont see any. What could it possibly be

If the thermostat and pump have been replaced, it's most likely the radiator. They corrode after time. Try flushing the antifreeze (not just draining and refilling it, but flush the system with clear water.) Most auto stores, Walmart, etc. carry the flush kit for very little $$. Once it's flushed, refill the system with the correct ratio of antifreeze.

If the problem persists, then it's most likely gunk in the radiator. Auto shops can boil them clean.

Short of all of the above, overheating can also be caused by a cracked cylinder head. If it overheated too bad at any point, it can crack the head and will continue to overheat regularly. Check for antifreeze in the oil. If there "is" antifreeze or water in the oil, the head is most likely shot (and yes, it will still run that way).

remove radiator and power wash fins they could be blocked then install again then get a good engine flush drain water then refill with flush and water then start and drive read the flush bottle for instructions then let all out again then refil with clean water and a good coolant , remember to blead the system when filling every time you drain water etc, hope this helps. it will work.

the impellors in the water pump are prone to corrosion,especially if no or incorrect radiator additives have been used .this will cause water to stay in motor & boil whilst the water in the radiator stays cold because it cannot circulate.try flushing radiator ,installing a new thermostat (which is more than likely not opening )& radiator cap,refil with correct additive,.if the car still over heats then you will need to replace the water pump.bugger!!
