Question about 2000 Mercury Mystique

1 Answer

I have a 2000 4 cyl. Mercury Mystique. I recently changed the spark plugs and noticed that on the old ones there was oil all over it except for the electrode. I was wondering if that is normal or if I have a problem.

If the oil only covered the "outside" of the spark plug, it is likely the valve cover seals to which will be carried by most autoparts stores. Replace by using a black silicone to hold the seal in the cover(just a couple of dots here and there to hold it in will do) and this should cure the issue for at least another 60,000 miles. If you need instructons, please feel free to let me know.

How do I change the Flasher on a 2000 Mercury Mystique and where can I buy one?

The turn signal flasher for a 2000 Mercury Mystique is located at the top of the steering column on the back of the multifunction switch. It plugs into terminals 31, 49 and 49A shown in the picture below.

You can get to it by removing the screws and taking the steering column shroud off.

The place to buy one would be at an auto parts store. (Just pick one...they should all have it.)

Car will not accelerate over twenty mph, engine light on. changed spark plugs, oil , and they said it was a converter 4 coil malfuntion what is that?

probabli your ignition coil as it has 4 outputs for the spark plug wires. have you run ittrough a scaner and read trouble codes? what did the old spark plugs looked like?too black means exess fuel ,too white its not sufficient also is recommended to change fuel filter on a regular basis.

Changed the spark plugs and the old ones were covered in oil

Your valve cover gasket is leaking, allowing oil to get into the spark plug holes. You'll need to replace the valve cover gasket.

i'm guessing that your car is a 4-cylinder. this is common for inline 4-cylinder engines. since the spark plug holes usually go through the valve cover, the valve cover gasket will leak and collect in the spark plug holes. to fix this you will have to replace the valve cover gasket.
