Question about 1996 Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

I have a 1996 Chevrolet c1500 with a 5.7 Vortex motor. When I drive down the road it dies periodically, it starts back up pretty easy. I have done a complete tune up (oil change, new spark plugs and spark plug wires, new air filter, new fuel filter, and new fuel pump). It still cuts out and dies on me periodically. I have also changed the ignition control module. After changing the module it ran good for a few minutes and then started doing the cutting out and dying thing again. How do I fix this problem? I have spent lots of money so far trying to fix it already.

Taking the vehicle an having scan testing done should be done before replacing parts . Without testing we would only be guessing ! Could be fuel related ,sensor problem , ignition etc.... If we suggested a few different thing's would you just replace them ? Testing an not guessing is how to fix drivability problems .

Truck dies while driving down the road.

i had the same problem, if you are sure its not the pigtail on the fuel pump, pop the plastic cover off of the fuel pump relay, i used a paper shim between the points in the relay, so its always closed, worked like that several years

1996 Tahoe 4x4 5.7 Vortec dies when I turn the steering wheel periodically, when I start up and pull into the street, then will start up again and then dies, or if I get gas, and pull out and turn wheel it...

The 1990's chevy trucks(all of them) had fuel pump and grounding problems:

1. Check the fuel pump ground strap next to the gas tank as it could be broken from the connector or just loose.

2. Have a fuel pressure test done on the fuel lines at the engine top. (Note: if there isn't enough fuel pressure, replace the fuel pump.)

1998 Chevrolet C3500 dies randomly when driving down the road - uphill, downhill or flat surfaces. Typically doesn't happen when it's cold. Sometimes it starts back up and sometimes it doesn&#

my younger brothers' truck did the same thing and there was a relay up under the dashboard that would get hot and shut of(kind of a circuit breaker unit) most of the operating systems will flash at you when only battery voltage is available which explains the lights coming on..these newer trucks also have a performance chip in the system that will act up when it gets warm also..replace this and you may be ok..let me know what happens also.. good luck.

Died and wont crank

If it died and won't crank, sounds like you lost power to something.
Does the warning lights come on when you turn the key on ?
Got headlights ?
A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter and work back from there.

I was driving down the road and my motor stopped

the alternator may of went bad and stopped charging so the car died when the battery went dead. Charge the battery and test to start with. Are you saying wont turn over ot turns over and wont start. If it turns over and wont start then it could be several things. Will need to get it diagnosed to be sure
