Timing belt problems are common with the Ford Escort, mine went, without warning, at 50,000 mi. When your ready to replace it, have the water pump replaced at the same time, it'll save you $$$ in the long run.

1999 honda accord vtech timing belt marks

The Honda F23 series engine is a 2.3 liter, all aluminum block, 16 valve, Single Overhead Camshaft (SOHC) motor used in the Honda Accord (1994 - 2002) and Acura Cl (2.3). Timing belt failure may result in either the intake or exhaust valves bending after contacting the pistons. If the belt has broken, a Compression Leakage test is advised to determine if the valves require replacement. Compression leakage from any of the cylinders (indicating bent valves) will require the removal of the cylinder head. An inspection and rebuild of the head by a reputable automotive machine shop is recommended in lieu of doing it yourself. This DIY article only covers belt replacement. The belt replacement interval is either 90,000 or 105,000 miles based on the specific model year. Check the owner's manual for the specific service interval. If the mileage is below the threshold but the vehicle is over 7 years old, consider performing a replacement as preventative maintenance (PM). Timing belts cannot be visually inspected for wear. Moreover, a visual inspection would require the removal of the timing belt cover which in itself is time consuming and better spent working on replacement. A typical timing belt component kit consists of: 1. Timing Belt 2. Balance Shaft Belt. 3. Timing Belt Tensioner Pulley. 4. Balance Shaft Tensioner Pulley

Put new timing belt on a 2002 ford escort 2.2 liter split port and it sounds like running on 2 cylinder

Odds are pretty good that your timing is off. Review the procedure for setting the timing wheninstalling the belt. Annoying. The upside is that you'll be really good at it after the second go round.

Car cut off while driving...I've replaced serpintine belt, points and new gas...still will not start...

Hi, you may have a problem with your timing belt. This is a different belt than the serpentine belt that drives your engine accessories. The timing belt is located under a series of covers and connects your crankshaft and cam shaft(s) so that when your pistons come up and down, your intake and exhaust valves open at the appropriate times. You don't mention the mileage on your Escort, but typically the timing belt replacement interval is at 60,000 miles. Replacement of this belt, associated pulleys, and water pump is at least a $500 job at any service station.

Good luck.

I have a 98 ford escort 2 liter it was running great while driving it just died the engine turns has spark fuel but will not fire

did you check your timing belt? Remove the top half of the timing cover. Spin the motor over with the starter see if the camshaft turns. No turn need belt. Leave comment.

At how many miles should i change my timing belt? 2002 ford escort 2.0 liter

According to the 1997-2002 Ford Escort Manual the average replacement interval is every 60,000 Miles (96,000 Kilometers). I unfortunately procrastinated and my timing belt snapped at 109,000 Miles and I had to go to the junk yard for a new engine. I had to replace a whole engine for not replacing a $15.00 belt.
