Question about 1990 Honda Accord

1 Answer

1990 accord that wont start. It did this b efore but started after an hour and ran good for a month, then quit. It will fire if I give it a shot of starter fluid. I am not sure if the pump or the selinoid is shot. I don't have tools to check the pressure. Can I disconnect the fuel line and see? Thanks

You can disconnect but do not recommend. Sounds as if you do have a fuel pump problem, electrical problem relating to fuel pump relay and or wiring, or fuel injector problem. More than likely its a fuel pump.

When you say you have fuel, do you have normal fuel pressure at the injectors ? Because Honda cars are known for faulty fuel pump relays.
The relay stops powering the pump when it gets hot but will start back up when the relay cools off.

This is a long shot, but maybe the fuel pump relay or pump is shutting down when it gets hot. It sounds like a fuel problem to me. Good-Day! Hope this helps! also check and or replace fuel filter, and air filter.

1990 Subaru Legacy will crank but not fire up. Just got it for free. It was running great, then it started running rough for a few days. It sat for about a month and now will not start. Got it for free....

Generally it is a matter of the easy/cheap approach first. Replace the fuel filter if you can followed by spark plugs. Since it ran fine initially then degraded it is likely that this is a fuel delivery or spark to ignition problem. Beyond these relatively cheap fixes the issue may entail a fuel pump or ignition coil(s). Good luck, these are quite durable and dependable vehicles generally.

1990 Accord turns over always but sometimes wont start unless clutch is pumped???

Now that is spooky. The clutch would have no connection to the engine starting, only cranking.
Its possible the fuel pump relay is failing and for some reason either waiting or the vibration of pumping the clutch is getting it to work.
The relay should be under the dash near the pedals.
I would check fuel pump voltage when it fails to start.

1990 honda accord wont fire

Do you have spark, do you have fuel pressure? it is one of these or a camshaft timing problem. I would start with checking the spark at the plugs 1st.

Onece in a while turn over wont fire. runs great other wise

your injector or fuel pump may be going out, next time when you check the issue, check your distubutor again and making sure you getting sparks, if you do have sparks than it has to be your fuel problems.

I had the same problem with my 1990 chevy 1500 (350) replaced the plugs and wires no luck. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator, still no luck. So i called my mechanic he said it would either be the map sensore or the coolant temp sensor. I didnt figure the coolant temp sensor would cause my truck to flood but it was a 17 dollar part so i gave it a shot, took 10 seconds to switch it out with a 19mil deep socket. Truck fired up and ran like a top no more flooding. =)
