Question about 2002 Volkswagen Passat

Open Question

VW passat 2.5tdi v6 2002 For the life of me i can't work out the fuel system. In the fuel tank a tube with a filter on sits in a resovoir, not pressurised, how does it get to the filter at the front of the car? We changed cam belt, timed every thing up, then it run for at least half hour. Then we changed fuel filter under bonnet, started it up, it run again for 15 mins, switched off engine started again, then it cut out. No fuel getting to filter, primed filter with hand pump, tries to start, but again no fuel getting to filter under bonnet. Pump working ok in fuel tank but only fill up small resovoir where pipe with filter sits. any ideas out there please. Thanks Ste

SOURCE: New battery in 03 VW Passat, engine turns but will not start.

Possible flooding, cold weather can freez open injectors causing them to leak into the cylinders. Press the gass pedal all the way to the floor and crank the engine for no more than 60 seconds. The cylinders will clear themselves allowing proper mix of air/fuel and should start easy. If that does not solve please specify if the engine is 1.8l or 2.8l.

SOURCE: golf gti runs for 7 min then cuts out

It could be your coil unit. They can operate intermittently like that. try cooling it down with water/air (a bit risky) when you suspect the car is going to cut out. Even the coil pack is not overheating it could still be faulty (not properly earthing) try swopping the pack with a friend's one.

SOURCE: 1993 VW Cabriolet Fuel pump or Injector problem?

Hi. This is more of a fuel filter issue than a pump issue although, a bad fuel filter will eventually destroy a fuel pump. When the filter is restricted or clogged, this will tend to work the pump harder than normal. this will over heat the pump, therefore, shortening its life span. I recommend replacing the fuel pump and filter and, adding a fuel additive like techtron fuel injector cleaner/water remover as well.

Please rate and have a great day:)

My passat was sitting in a tow yard for 3 months it was working fine before it got towed. Now I replaced the battery and put half tank of gas. the car doesn't start but it cranks. WHAT COULD BE THE ...

After 3 months it is possible the fuel pump has seized up due to the fuel going bad. As of 2 years ago, fuel has a storage life of around 90 days. If the fuel had ethanol in it when it was stored, this fuel stratifies in the tank and the water content sinks to the bottom also ruining the in tank fuel pump.

It is also possible other components may have failed coincidentally and you will need a scanner to pull the codes stored in the ECU to see if other sensors have failed.

When electronic loaded vehicles sit until the battery goes flat.... it induces a lot of false codes as the system awakes and then goes back to sleep because of low voltage fluctuations as battery looses it's voltage.

The ground clamp should be removed from the battery before late model vehicles are put in long term storage to prevent electronic code scrambling .

92 vw passat 2.0 16v wont start.

I bet it's the gas. After some time the gas will no longer be volatile enough to start the car. Try draining all the fuel and putting in some fresh gas. Remember, when you try to start it again you'll need to get the new gas through the pump and lines before it will start. Also, check the condition of the injectors. Old gas can start to break down and build up a film that could be on your injectors (or clog your fuel filter- better check that too). Hope this helps.

Gas filter location on a 2005 chev. 2500hd pick up it is not along frame rail like on 98-2001 models

As of 2004, fuel filters are in the fuel tank as part of the fuel pump. They have a life expectancy of around 150,000 miles as to that is when the fuel pump starts to fail. You can get more life out of the fuel pump if you keep the gas tank over 1/4 at a time, the more the better since it's the gas that keeps the fuel pump cooled. The fuel pump has a double filter system, there is a filter screen on the pump unit housing about 3/4 up so all the larger dirty stays at the bottom of the gas tank, and then another finer screen on the pump pick up tube it self in the housing. With the double filter system, it has a much longer life and will out last the pump it self. Good luck and hope this helps and best thing you can do as mentioned is keep gas above 1/4 and add fuel injector cleaner once a month to your gs tank or every time your service the truck. My 1.8 20v turbo has no power but builds up

Check fuel system. Leaks,Dirty filter can cause this
condition. You could have gotten a tank full of bad fuel. If this is the case ,you must drain all fuel and dispose of it properly. Change the fuel filter AGAIN.
This should keep you busy this weekend.

OH, by the way you may have to replace the Turbo!!

replace your fuel filter first. If that does not do it, then try an air-flow meter. (if the check engine light is on it may be an airflow meter.

2003 vw jetta tdi fuel filter

It is on the passenger side right behind the washer fluid fill tube. You can follow the fuel lines (look like 1/4" black tubes, some are clear) from the injector pump to it. It is a caniser a bit bigger than a normal looking oil filter and sits between the washer bottle and the metal that forms the wheel well. It is held in by a screw type clamp about half way down the cylinder. Probably isn't the fuel filter unless there is air in the lines to the injector pump or they didn't bother to fill the fuel filter up with diesel after putting it in. There is not a fuel pump in the tank in these cars so everything is sucked up by the injector pump and it needs to be primed properly.
